Why jump on the 3D bandwaggon just yet? Why not go for picture quality over gizmos until they sort out things like edge sharpness/ flicker and the glasses. Trouble with asking the internet, you get peoples' personal preferences, and 9 times out of 10, the model that the person bought themselves. I'd say Sony Bravia, others would say Panasonic, some might say LG, Some will say Sharp Aquos.
So get down the shops and have a look at a few yourself, don't trust other peoples' skewed views on what you should spend your money on.
You'll need external boxes like a PC/ blu-ray/ games console to get anything in 3D as Freeview and Freesat are 2D only.

3D HD TV. Have a 3k budget and would like a 46-50" screen size with everything built into the unit ie no external boxes for 3D gizmos. Preferably slim with a grey/silver frame but not essential.
Thanks in advance....
Well I have been in a similar situation to yours and am wanting something almost exactly the same. Thanks in advance....
Even though the TV has not been released yet (see my other thread) the new Panasonic plasma VT30 will do everything you ask for.
Freesat and Freeview Built in
3D
THX certified for both 3d and 2d.
Even though I have not seen the actual TV im going on past performance of the 20 series which for me personally and anyone else who I know have used them have been amazing.
Of course as the previous posted said this is totally subjective.
Though I would say there are many people on all forums who do rate the Panasonic plasmas highly.
Ok they wont be as slim as a LCD but the new series is meant to be an imporvement on the outgoing series.
