Quay for my Car - Poole Quay Event
Discussion
Fubar. You're assuming that it would be at the lower end of the spectrum.
Anything which takes shape would be completely family friendly and classy. Absolutely no wet tshirts in sight. As you say, cheap is bad for business.
Its speculative at the moment, & it will happen only if I can come up with a good idea & format which Poole tourism would approve.
At the end of the day, just getting the tvrs present is accomplishment enough.

Everyone - if you read back through the thread, you'll see that I already stated that Poole Tourism don't guarantee a place.
HOWEVER, they have managed to cope with 120 Porsches before, so we should be good unless we get inordinate amounts of public TVR owners turning up.
As I stated, the earlier you arrive, the more likely you are to get a better spot, and whilst I've arranged for a handful of prime spots for selected cars (like the Typhon), the vast majority will just have to arrange to be there for 6pm or earlier. People arriving after 6.30-7pm may struggle to get a decent spot.
Poole Tourism are NOT keen on people arriving very early, as this can block the access to the quay as people queue up, so I'd not recommend arriving earlier than 5.30pm as you'll probably get turned away.
I have agreed with Poole Tourism to be there early myself to help arrangements, and ensure a select few get the correct spots reserved for them. This will be finalised in the week prior to the event.
In the meantime, can everyone make sure they put their number plate and estimated arrival time in the table, and this will assist with ensuring everyone gets onto the quay.

as mentioned above, I've tentatively agreed with Poole Tourism that we can reserve a handful of spaces for specific/unusual cars.
At the moment, I have in mind, and this will depend on final confirmation from Poole Tourism:
Also, regarding arrival times, just add a reply to the thread with your time, and I'll edit the table when I check next, hence keeping the thread short(er).

Hi there, I know a few people have booked into Milsoms Hotel Canford Cliffs however they are now fully booked, is anyone staying at another local hotel which has space and secure parking?
You shouldn't have a problem with hotels, Poole & Bournemouth are REPLETE with hotels of all shapes & sizes.Try for starters:
- Thistle Hotel, Poole Quay
- Quayside Bed & Breakfast, Poole Quay
- Premier Inn, Holes Bay, Poole
If you want to splash out a little, then there are beach-side hotels a bit further away, but still in Poole, too:
- Sandbanks Hotel
- The Haven Hotel
And for anyone not familiar with the area, if you stay over Poole Bridge in Hamworthy, it's ok, but stay clear of Turlin Moor (Northern part of Hamworthy). Not necessarily dangerous, but your car might warrant undue attention from oiks...
Ok update from Poole Tourism.
PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE BEFORE 6PM.
Poole Tourism only have permission to close the Quay at this time, and any cars arriving before 6pm will be turned away until the Quay is closed to public traffic. If cars park up trying to enter the Quay block the road, you are likely to be moved on by the police. So please ensure that you time your arrival to be as close to 6pm as possible. If you need somewhere to park if you arrive early, then head to Baiter Park about 1/2km East of Poole Key, where there is a harbour front car park, and green space to walk the dog/kids/wife/gf/granny. (Easy to spot on Google Maps)
Look forward to seeing everyone next Friday!

Guys,
Boosted Cerb (Supercharged Cerbera)
Ron House (Al Melling Tuscan)
T14HON (Typhon)
7 TVR (LS3 Griff)
Please can each of you make yourselves known on arrival by printing out your Pistonheads name (as above) onto a large sheet of A3 or A4 and put in your front windscreen so I can ID you.
You all have been allocated the only 4 quay front reserved spots. If you could all aim to arrive at 6pm or as soon as possible after, as much later and I'll have trouble keeping the spots reserved....
Thanks
Mike

I wouldn't phrase it as a free-for-all.
The Poole Tourism staff will be involved in directing people on a first come first served basis.
I've managed to secure a few spots for the rarer cars, but the remainder, yes will have to go where they are told.
Hence, being there at 6pm sharp will probably mean a better spot than if you turn up after 7pm.
Everyone will get a place - Poole Tourism have an overflow location, and given the weather forecast is good, the quay is likely to be very busy with general public all the way along, so no shortage of attention!
I'm heading down tonight to check out breakfast for my Cerb (yes it's the porker night tonight), and get a feel for how the event runs.

Weather forecast for this evening is for sunny warm spells, and light wind, so all should be good.
Went to the Porsche night last week, and yawn, it was like doing "spot-the-difference".
Makes you realise how efficiently boring German engineering is......zzzzzz
But tonight, whizz, vrrmmm, bang, crack, pop.....British sports cars at their best!!
See y'all there at 6pm!

Out of all of the Quay for my Car events so far this year that I've attended, this was easily the most impressive, best attended, and appeared of most interest to members of the public.
TVRs seem to capture the imagination and interest of the general public more than any other mainstream sports car brand, except perhaps Ferrari which are on a par I'd think.
Cheers for the messages of thanks, but I really did very little, just liaise with Poole Tourism by email. Very glad everyone enjoyed the evening, and I'll contact the tourism team shortly to ask about next year.

Copy of message sent to Poole Tourism just now:
Anne,
Firstly, I want to pass on a huge thank you, to you and your team, from myself and all of the TVR owners who attended the event on Friday evening. There have been many messages of thanks posted on the Pistonheads Forum saying how well organised the event was.
With the great weather, and a super turn-out (88 or so I heard?), I have to say that the whole experience was fabulous, and I certainly heard many members of the public expressing interest in the cars and enjoying the overall experience. Compared to the other evenings I've attended this year, it seemed that the TVRs generate a bit more curiousity! Then I would think that being an owner :-)
Secondly, given how successful the evening was, there is a lot of interest from the owners in making this an annual event. So I was wondering if you can see your way to scheduling a regular TVR night each year in either this same weekend in July, or perhaps during August? I for one, would be happy to drum up support again.
Thanks once again,
Mike

Well people, the good news is, Poole Tourism have responded to my thank you email saying that they were very pleased with the turnout and public interest and have agreed to run a TVR night for the next couple of years, reviewing it each year depending on attendance!!
They also confirmed that the same weekend is free next year, and that this year's attendance was 89!
So let's see if we can smash that, and turn Poole Quay for my Car into a second Chatsworth of the South Coast!
Vrmmmm, pop, pop, crack, bang.....vrmmmmmm......
