You did better than me then, I didn't try and find you as I didn't realise you were there until you posted up the day after. getmecoat

It would be great to catch up at some point, I would be very interested to hear about your GEMS conversion amongst other things. Your car has changed an awful lot since we last met, it looks absolutely stunning and watching it from the pit wall sounded great and goes like stink! Anyway who are you trying to kid running in the intermediate group!

I shall look forward to seeing the footage, you should be able to work out your lap times from that. I would be very interested to know how quickly you were lapping as it looked proper quick out there.

The video software is nothing special, it is just Harry's Lap timer running on my iPhone with a old Go Pro camera. I recently added a 20hz GPS receiver which you can see taped to the dash as the iPhone inbuilt 1hz GPS is not really fast enough. It is not the most reliable setup but cheap and you get an OK result for casual track dayer like myself.
Yeah it definitely would, the GEMS conversion has now settled in very nicely and I've worked out the few little bugs that I hadn't caught when I wrote the article so it's running very nicely now as you could probably hear! I Hadn't been on track for several years so I thought I'd better start out in the intermediate group which was probably a good idea at first but once I'd found my form a bit I was probably in the wrong group and annoying a few people with a few of my passes smile I was starting to get some wobbly brakes toward the end of the day though which will need looking at so I wound it down a bit when I really wanted to go chasing some of the faster folks!

Love the video software though, which version of Harry's lap timer do you have? I think I'll have to get it for next time.. Also I definitely need to get out there more often - it had been way too long! When's the next unsilenced day!??

Lovely noise Nick, and I enjoyed the synchronised gardening at the end. That's something you see all the time in racing, car in front goes off big time, car behind goes off as well in sympathy, just to help the first one not feel so bad about it.!

Haha, well thankyou! I was worried he might turn back onto the circuit so thought it best just to brake in a straight line and work out where he was going before rejoining.. I did back off a bit though as he was looking a bit wild in a couple of corners before - glad I did!

Edit: do need to get Matt Pox's microphone and app setup for the next one I think...

Great video Nick, I enjoyed that. It sounded far better on the day from the pits. You cannot hear the charger whine in the video.

I originally went for the standard version but I quickly upgraded to the Grand Prix edition once I was happy with how it worked. Race Chrono is also supposed to be very good so maybe check that one out as well before committing.

One thing I know you can do with Harrys is link an ODBII bluetooth adapter to it so you can overlay revs, throttle position and other data over the top if the video. As you are aware your GEMS ECU has ODBII.

Yeah I've never heard the whine! Maybe I need one mic in the front and one in the back so I can hear it properly..! Excellent I'll have a look at getting that Harry's, I do indeed have OBDII, in fact I already have a dongle too but it's a wi-fi one so I might have to swap it out. It was my first trackday for a very long time so was re-learning what the car would do for most of it, keen to go and have a proper play now, roll on spring!
