My first track day in a TVR was at 59, since when i have done about 6 a year in six years.

Tips - personally, I would try to stick to race circuits, airfields tend to be rougher, rather gritty and can play havoc with your paintwork.
Race circuits are the smoothest cleanest tarmac you will find anywhere, including motorways. And the facilities are better than at airfields.
Cadwell Park (my favourite), Snetterton, Oulton Park, Anglesey, Castle Combe are probably my favourite five.

In a few weeks someone will start a thread on preparing your car and for the track.
A few simple steps to make sure you don't run out of tyres and brakes, and enjoy your driving.

I'd like a go at a track day.

Is it suitable for a complete novice like me? Other than turning up in a TVR what are the entry requirements?
Seriously recommend doing some passenger laps at an earlier event if at all possible

I did PAX laps at TVR track days for several years before I was in a position to drive at a track day

I'm very grateful to the friend who took me to Snetterton and Brands so many times

Not sure I can thank him for getting me hooked on the Cerbera - the damn thing has taken over my life

Ok here comes the first tip lol.
I’ve done a few track days now, and the biggest shock to the system is the speed.
To explain: if you’re used to driving your car at speed on the public roads, you get used to the vibration from the road etc and without looking at the speedo, you’ll have a fair idea just from instinct as to your speed.
On a track though, with a silky smooth finish, what I found is, I was coming into a corner way faster than I assumed, because I was using the same instinct to judge speed - the reduced road noise plays havoc with your senses.

Just pushing this to the top again to make sure we get the numbers. Current fine weather just a taster of what we can look forward to at this later Cadwell date this year. Sign up at the TVRCC office.

I am SO looking forward to this. Its a fantastic track, not stupidly fast (max 120-125 mph), with 14 corners in 2.1 miles, and up and down hills too to keep you interested. My favourite track by far.

Here's what it looks like from an MX5 2.5 turbo, trying to keep up with a Chimaera whose driver does seem to have nodded off slightly.

Yes, embarrassed to say that was me.
Never mind missing the apex at Mansfield (left hander at the bottom of the hill), I was nearly in the next county......

I had a few passenger laps in that MX (as he did in my car). The tyre squeal and handling right on the edge of grip in the right handers at the top of the hill was really something. He could drive, and the car handled it really well. He absolutely loved the acceleration and grunt of the Chimaera.

It's a fantastic flowing circuit.
I will be booking in the next few days.

Paid my deposit over the phone to the club this afternoon

I'm apparently the 13th to pay and a total of 58 are needed for it to go ahead.

Hopefully many more will pay over the next few weeks.

I'm sure that I have read somewhere that the end of the second week in April is when a decision has to be made depending upon numbers who've paid.

The sessions are normally only for the first couple of hours, to give those new to track days a chance to get used to track speeds and manners without fear of rocket ships hurtling past them. I seem to remember last year it went to open pit lane (drive when you like) from late morning onwards.

Fear not, beginners. Overtaking is only allowed on the straights and only on the left hand side, so you will find it very easy to adapt to. There will never be too many cars on the track at once - the track staff won't allow it. The truth is, you will wonder where everyone has gone. The answer is - too busy talking to be driving.

I for one will be looking forward to seeing you all there.

Brings friends along. They can watch for free, including kids, and anyone 16 or older can go on track as a passenger for as nominal fee, a few quid paid once for the entire day. They just need to sign on with the organisers - usually ok on the day itself (bring cash) - and get their hands on a helmet. They can be hired from the organisers, and I will bring my spare open face helmets along. A number of us will happily give passenger rides, me included.

Note on helmets - anyone wanting to run their car on track with the roof off, or passenger in a car with the roof off, will need to be wearing a full face helmet. A car with the roof on only requires an open face helmet.

Deposit down, I'm number 15- hopefully we'll reach 58 from within TVR circles but if not then I've volunteered some mates as reserves (even if I haven't told them yet..), let's make sure this goes ahead!

I'm disassembling my interior at the moment and it won't be back together by then, but I missed Rockingham so I'm going to be there goddammit even if I bring most of my car along in a plastic bag!

May the gods of cable ties and duct tape see that the marshals look kindly upon me...
