I'm the S that broke down infront of the restaurant. I was having a great day until then. Thank you everyone that helped especially the owner of the white S1. So far traced the fault the the fuel pump relay or wiring of. If anyone knows where a S3 fuel pump relay is located it would be appreciated
Hi Mark, the fuel pump relay is up behind the glove box. Just unscrew the two glove box bolts to drop it out of the way and look for the small red relay in the mare's nest of wiring above and to the left. They have been known to shake loose and cease making contact, and just need pushing firmly back in, but best to check the contact blades and the relay base for signs of overheating whilst you have access.

Good luck,
Glen

I'm gutted I couldn't be there due to preppingthe route for the Thrills in the Hills run, but then again at least I was spared the sight of phazed displaying his ventral regions: yikes

A sight that once seen, cannot be unseen! rofl
Thanks for that Anthony, now where's the eye bleach?

You guys!

Just found this. Great I thought, the camera car is pulling out behind me, this'll be good, fame at last!

Well that didn't last long...........shouldn't have fixed the throttle cable.

I just couldn’t keep up (but it was my first time on track).

From 13.18 onwards, I was in the yellow Tuscan. Blimey, when you see yourself on film it just emphasises how much I need to learn about lines and control.

You can see what difference 400 BHP makes in distance over a short time.

Absolutely. Get the line spot-on, you exit faster and you slingshot yourself down the straight arriving at the next bend faster than you were previously. Very satisfying when you get it right.

The lines were ok, what was happening when you were slightly 'off line' was that you were not pushing as hard as you could and therefore the car allowed you to turn that little bit earlier.

It's a well worn phrase, but "slow in, fast out" is what I need to achieve and frequently fail to do.

I am relatively quick on track days, as Phazed mentioned above, yet I still cannot manage to master that maxim to my satisfaction.

All too often I am arriving into corners too fast, and am then hanging onto the car around the corner in order keep on the track on the way out, which compromises my exit speed.
If I braked harder and possibly slightly earlier, I could get into the corner in better control and then power out from the apex.
The car would be in no danger of leaving the track and i would be 10-20 mph faster out of the corner and onto the next straight.
Mat Smith demonstrated that perfectly on Friday - his race car has no more power than ours (about 350bhp), but he knows how to drive a race track. He was shed loads faster than all of us all day.

I had some tuition at Castle Combe a couple of years ago, on a memorable group track day (we won't mention wheels coming off trailers on the A429, late night chilli and red wine, massive hangover, and briefings that banged on about TVR unreliability - needless to say all the TVRs on track were faultless all day).

My instructor actually got me braking and changing down at the right place, and powering through the corners, and the difference was brilliant. Think I need to go back on an MSE event just to get some serious amounts of tuition from Anthony (same name as me, similar beard and lack of hair, and a zillion laps of experience under his belt).

It will be money well spent.

Hi Peter

Not sure who the Vauxhall VX guy was, not with our lot - must admit I hadn’t seen him until very late in the day.

I also got stuck behind a blue Cerb that wouldn’t move over lap after lap, gave up & came in - then got told off for driving too close - go figure that one out ??!!!! ( I was driving a mates BMW at the time - maybe that was the problem biggrin )

Was me in the V6 Exige - cheers - thought your Chim was going rather well too sir.
Deffo wasn't me holding you up! - I was out of your way instantly, you and the pesky Elise were rapid! - Being a past owner you should have sympathy for us poor Cerbs! smilesmilesmile

Just to put this straight, it wasn’t a guy in the Lotus but one of those Vauxhall Elise looky likeys.

Last moan, why are there so many people who think just because they are in a fast car, won’t move over to let others past.

I was behind a blue Cerb , Lap after lap after lap and he would not move over. It was obvious I was faster than him as was Ian in his Griff who gave up in the end. Bad show and a very, very frustrating!

To the guy in the V6 Exige, what a great car and a great drive by yourself. A really formidable combination. Other great drivers are available and out there!
I was in a blue Cerb, But I can tell you it wasn't me! - There was more than one.....

Phew..I am innocent smile

I also suffered from the Vauxhall thingy. He passed me entering the gooseneck! - there were 3 obvious places to let cars pass...and he couldn't wait another few seconds!

Echo TVRM's...All it needs is a lift off and indicate and people are past. I had a few times when people indicated over, but kept their boot hard in and a few others who thought they were racing me!

Nobody who turned up with more than 250hp is allowed to moan about not getting past people, the number of times I was stuck behind someone who promptly disappeared down the next straight... hehe

It's all part and parcel of track days, there was a wide variety of abilities and cars so if someone clearly isn't getting the message after a couple of laps then it pays just to find your own space!

Not a popular view, but....

It’s why sessions are so much better when there is such variance in car and driver abilities.
(All IMO)

I wasn’t going to risk my car and possibly my life by squeezing past someone who isn’t moving over on a narrow track. It’s not racing, we are there for fun but it is easy to get frustrated when someone can’t admit to being slower, throttle off and move over.
