Just mention your helping a friend run his car. Grab an old rotor cap or similar and wave it at the guy at the gate. Ive never heard of being charged just to attend ( help) at a trackday.
You normally pay the people running that trackday at the office or briefing room if you then want to actually drive someone else’s car and will be given an arm band. The guys at the gate usually just wave you past or direct you to parking.

Well I’ll be….. that’s ridiculous as running a car often requires more than one person. If you are signed up to drive your own car does your ( helper) get a free ticket?
After all you have paid to use the track. They might simply be there to get you on that track!

Spectators,,, trackdays like most race meetings, spectators are very thin on the ground! Deserted you could call it!
Who spectates at trackdays other than other drivers and helpers!
That’s a shock to me. I’d check if paid up drivers indeed get a free helpers pass.

I reckon if you mention your mates Tvr needs fixing the guys at the gate will let you in as they are experienced and understand TVR are often in need of a quick repair. biggrin
That’s a legit reason to be let through in anyone’s book. thumbup
I’ve never paid when just spectating ( joining ) friends to help out? In truth your only likely to be in the pits anyway.
Maybe this is because you have an active pit lane so you have to have an arm band to access that area.
They don’t want people wandering about in that live lane unless you have been through the briefing most probably.

Thanks for the replies guys. I’ll look into it - just looking to get a feel for how it all works as not taken my Chimaera on track before 👍

A quick call will establish what they mean.

Yes, there is quite a large car-parky area behind the pits at Donington, and then the live lane next to the track.
Spectator access it quite separate.
So that's perhaps why.
When I have spectated at club racing, I have been in the centre of the track, watching the action down the Craner Curves.

I rang the TVRCC myself.
They are happy for us to be in the pits for spannering purposes/heckling/abuse, but it's the circuit who are charging for admission, so you might well find yourself relieved of £15 on the day (£10 if booked the previous day by caling the TVRCC) on admission to the circuit.

Much appreciated, I'll bring my helmet biggrin What time are you there from / till?

Probably won't have my Chimaera though as just dropped it off with Dom at Powers for MOT and service and it might end up having new camshaft and MBE engine management finally done. What are noise regs like at Donington, i.e. if pre-cats removed is there no chance?

I should be there all day. Just look for the white Motorhome.

Removing the Precat’s won’t make much of a difference, and I believe the noise level is 105 dB.

I always passed with a standard exhaust system.

Nobody should have any issues with this.
Clearly it is dependent on how far from the cars the noise meter is, but for reference I have in the past struggled with static 101 (or was it 103?) at Bedford, when my car was fully decatted, but Bedford's drive by was 85, the meter was about 10 metres from the track, and I never failed that.

I believe the noise meter is at the beginning of the start finish straight, so you can easily avoid passing that at a gazillion revs in second, but don't take my word for it, have a look yourselves if you are worried and spot where the noise meter is.

Also, remember, Donington are trying to keep you on track, not get you banned. Thye are your friends, fellow petrolheads.
They are also trying to comply with local council set noise restrictions, set because of local residents complaining about the noise.
Quite why anyone thinks it's reasonable to buy a house under an airport flight path and next to a long established race track, and then complain about the noise, is slightly beyond me.

Have a great time everyone, it's a good track, lots of elevation change and not based on an old airfield for a change.

I take it no-ones dropping out of this one?

Currently on the reserve list and was hoping to make a place - beginning to look doubtful sadly.

If you are not too far away you could just show up on the day as a spectator- there is almost certainly going to be one or two no shows on the day.......

Weather looking very promising for the end of next week. I know it is early days yet but it is looking good.

Those wishing to run dry tyres, they can hopefully leave those tyres at home.

Really looking forward to this, as I have only driven Donington once before, and that was in January where it reached -4 during the night! Track was a bit hairy to say the least for the first few hours!

Looking forward to seeing those classics whizzing around the track.
