Nope!! Infact at times the difference in speed for me was dangerous. Last time i take the car on a trackday i think.

Nice car Mike - looked like it was going well. What's the spec?

They were some very slow cars on parts of the track that they didnt need to be on IMO but everyone was there for their own reasons and having their own fun and most were courteous and got out of the way as soon as they saw us.

Just to wet the appetites......

I have quite a few nice shots, particularly of the TVRs, I expect to finish processing them Wednesday or Thursday and will post another link on here probably to photobucket.

To be fair they did get out of the way. It was my first ever trackday in the car and i just found the difference in speed to high.

The car was a bit of a knightmare unfortunatly. We got the handling sorted again but we had a missfire all day so never got to test it to its full potential, was really anoying on the straights!

What were you in?

Yea i remember following you for a couple of laps later on in the day. Your time attack cars are suprisingly quick. The prep levels are amazing!

Reluctantly I may have to admit that I might have been one of these slower cars you are both referring to (although I don't think I was on track at the same time as Mike).

As drivers who race, do you have any advice as to what novice drivers should do about trackdays? I find it a bit overwhelming to be hunted by faster drivers, but I don't think there are too many 'all novice' days out there.

My paranoia about 'holding people up on track' has stopped me booking up on a number of occasions. But it seems that this is quite a real problem for faster drivers then frown

To be honest Nicky i feel that its the opposite problem. I'm not sure "race" cars should be on a track day in the first place. Its ideal to have a pre season shakedown but nothing more.

I didnt mean to sound as if i thought anyone did anything wrong on the day. Just purely the difference in speed.

Amazon, not sure what you were driving, but I have a feeling it was the dark blue TVR ? reg ending SXE ?

If so, I understand what you are saying. In the morning, you were obviously learning the track and how to drive the car on it. There were cars behind you at times.

In the afternoon, you were much quicker than the morning, you`d definately improved a lot through the day.

You have to remember, this is a trackday, not a race or timed event, you have as much right to be on track as anyone else.

The only thing I would suggest is when you know there is a line behind you, do as you did, indicate then move to the right, but lift off a little.... wink I was behind you and you`d wait until after the corners, onto the straight, indicate which was all great, but then keep your foot down. I was in a 160HP Golf and there was no way on earth I could get past a TVR in a drag race unless you helped biggrin

You were aware of other cars and knew when to move over, you just didn`t lift which meant passing was not possible for most cars, then it repeated on the next straight. If you let the other cars past, you`ll then have a free track behind and can concentrate on what you are doing instead of looking in your mirrors.

I`m trying to be constructive, not having a go. I`ve done a fair few trackdays and the speed difference in the faster cars still catches me out at times and I hold them up through the corners, but once you are committed, take the corner and THEN think about getting out of the way.

Oh, and if you were not in that particular car, i`m very sorry !!!

Your right it's a track day for a bit of fun.
I thought all in all it was good, only a couple of cars trying a bit too hard, getting too close in the braking zone.. Some people seem to have to get past at all costs, same as on the road I guess.
Let em go and get on with enjoying the track day. But do lift it helps a lot.
Some pics,

first time on sticky rubber, what a revelation. Why did I wait so long, the car came together at last.

Will sort some more later.
