This was flagged to me by a friend - thinking about it cos' I really need all the practice I can get and it appears to be great value.

Anyone else?

Hi Nicky. Missed this. Did the one back in October '08. It's ideal for a Cerbera with that long, long, back straight. Going to try and get a place booked for the Saturday.

Hi Nicky, what day are you going. I might as well come along.

I have a pal in a Caterham going on the Sunday, so I'd probably go for that day smile.

That's good to know Mooey smile. No chance you could make the Sunday?

I fancy it but unfortunately due to the introduction of the noise limits can't get on there frown Been to the last four and it’s a great weekend, will miss it this time but hopefully be back in Sept/Oct when I'm a bit quieter?

Sundays are normally occupied with football. I will have a look at the fixture list and see if there is a space available.

I was there in October too and managed to spin quite well smile

I was also a bit worried before going to a track day with a diveres field but it's not really right to think just because people do/don't have certain types/values of cars they'll be good/bad/sensible/stupid. This event is at a 'live' RAF base, there will be many watching and they will not stand for poor behaviour. Their organisation is very good.

Anything left on the runway area is a major hazard so nobody will want contact of any kind (also note there will not be many stones for the same reason). I think there was one accident on the Sunday, and at least 4 cars had significant breakages on the saturday (turbos, engines, whatever) but I don't think there were any accidents at all. If you haven't been before the 'track' is very wide (imagine 2 aircraft side by side and double it).

You are not allowed to overtake around corners which helps.

As it's cheap, it's well worth going for the experience even if you don't drive a huge amount, the proceeds will go to charity so everyone gains.

The events are good fun, they are cheap, plenty of food, the forces there are keen (and many would love a ride as a passenger) and as I said, the money goes to charity.

Mooey coming past me very fast when I was at 125 was great!

Go for it, you'll enjoy it biggrin

(Don't forget crash helmets and fire extinguishers)

I forgot to say, take notice of the requests for detail as clearence must be done in advance or you won't get in.

Not sure if I'll do the track day, but I'll most likely convoy up there with anyone that's going.

More of a question really. But not interested in being carved up by someone in a shed whom has no respect for others...

That's normal for Kettering, Dave.

Just seen this and am definitely interested. I've got my T350C back after being off of the road for 18 months so I'm keen to get in it again and start doing more stuff like this smile I've not been to RAF Marham before but it isn't far from me as I'm in Cambridge. Dave has mentioned there are likely to be very few stones etc. on the track due to it being an actively used runway, can anyone confirm this? I wouldn't want my nice new paintwork pebble dashed only weeks after getting the car back! I've been to a few airfield track days before and some have been pretty bad (not so bad if you leave plenty of room between you and the person in front).

Hi Nick, it is an operational air base. We are very strict about something called FOD (Foreign Object Damage).

Imagine the cost of an aircraft engine, any foreign item going into it will cost a fortune, therefore the runways are swept. That isn't to say there will never by anything, but IMO there is less chance of damage at those speeds than if you were able to drive on the roads like it. IIRC, in October, there was a sweep done half way through the day too.

It is quite different to non-operational bases where of course there is not normally any need to sweep the surface.

Hope this helps smile

Thanks Dave. I'm tempted to do this track day, I'll have to decide on which day to do go on. Sunday sounds like it will be busier but there will be people drifting on Saturday?

You're welcome Nick. I'm no expert on track days having only been to one, IIRC the Sunday was busier in October. In fact the plan was for the saturday session to be half hour on, half hour off, but as numbers were not high we could use the track all the time.

Go for it, it's worth a gamble (bacon sarnies are good too).
