Why is this only on BBC3? Get it on 1 or 2 - its compulsive viewing!
I agree. This should be on BBC1. Although I'm sure BBC Three gets a substantial viewing percentage, this kind of programme should really be on BBC1. More people need to see and appreciate this kind of filming and the people behind it.Really enjoyed last night's and am completely gripped by this programme when its on.

Although the first episode was better IMO, still a great program.
I must be old school, i didn't like the officer being over-familiar with the troops, wasn't like that when i was serving, albeit 25 years ago.
Speaking as an ex-Officer type, there was absolutely nothing wrong with that guy's style. There's a big difference between being relaxed and being slack.I must be old school, i didn't like the officer being over-familiar with the troops, wasn't like that when i was serving, albeit 25 years ago.

Speaking as a serving type albeit not army I was also a little uncomfortable with just how pally he was. Although to me it seemed like those lads would follow him to the end of the earth, which is what you need in the situation they find themselves. Project C said:
It seems that there is a choice to go to Afghanistan? I had thought that you're in a regiment or whatever (I don't understand the structure of platoons/regiments etc) and all of you get sent out but that doesn't seem to be the case?
The OP tour plot is written well in advance, if you`re in a unit nominated to go, unless there is a very good reason, you`re going. There will be, of course, a rear party that stays in the base in the UK/Germany etc to do the mundane everyday duties but a soldier will not be able to stick his hand up and say "Sir, I don`t really fancy it this time".

I watched it last night and thought it was bloody heart breaking. I dont agree with why our troops are there but I have a huge amount of respect for those serving and laying their lives on the line. I totally agree that it should be on bbc1/2 though.

Ruling regime in Afghanistan (Taliban) is anti-Western and harbours Al Qaeda leaders and training camps.
West invades Afghanistan to get rid of Taliban and Al Qaeda's hiding places.
Turns out it's not that easy to replace ruling party and eradicate Taliban in Afghanistan, so troops are still there 10 years later.
