is karl pilkington's personality in an idiot abroad real?

has anyone seen anything he's done before?

didn't used to like it at all, but actually starting to get right into it.

No that's him. A mate of mine worked with him at XFM years ago - he is actually like that all the time.

Karl is Karl. I remember when he first started talking on XFM... Hasn't changed.

really?

tbh he's awesome. just watching him on sky1, legging it from some israeli nutters dancing on a dual carriageway.

would be great to go out for a pint with for sure

You should grab the Ricky Gervais show podcasts/audiobooks... Very funny. There is also an animated HBO TV show of them.

The China episode was on again the other night, just brilliant! From that lady spitting in the bag on the bus and subsequently closing the curtain to Karl comparing the 'Great Alright Wall of China' with the M6. hehe

you're better off living in the hole looking at the palace, than living at the palace looking at the hole.

I found bits funny, but haven't watched a whole episode because I find him slightly irritating.

Karl is a legend. He never fails to make me laugh. He is alomost child like in his view on things and his lack of comprehension on anything thats different is always worth a viewing.

I love this show, has me laughing my arse off every time I watch it. His expressions and lack of interest in anything he does is highly amusing!! I like the one where he was walking around China (i think it was China) and he was trying to talk to the locals and there were like the walking dead, zero expression. He basically confirmed on video what I always thought about those people, they seem to have no expressions or personality whatsoever LOL

Karl is very funny without doing it on purpose. The India and Brazil episodes imho are the best. Also, as mentioned check out the Ricky Gervais show on dvd, the stories from Karls diary are priceless...

The podcasts are good, although in earlier ones you got a sense that Karl was enjoying the process and the abuse he was getting from Ricky (you can hear Karl laughing in some of them) but in later ones (The Ricky Gervais Guide To....) it seemed like he wasn't enjoying it so much, I got the distinct impression he was only doing it because he was skint.

It's the Forrest Gump approach to life - simplistic but astute and insightful.

It was also the premise behind the film "Being There".

I actually think you are both wrong. Listen to the Ricky Gervais podcasts, and it becomes clear that it's really the Karl Pilkington show. Gervais and Merchant are just there as leverage to get his astonishing brand of deadpan comedy into the limelight. He's an Ali G style alter-ego.... just amazingly subtle. Simply has to be. His comedy is timed and tuned to perfection - a perfectly observed character.

I genuinely believe this - I don't think he is at all stupid - this is just his comedy routine.

OK, I still think he's a dick and the "comedy" is extremely poor ..... in my opinion of course (if I'm allowed to have one).
