Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part deux
Discussion
Was at the printworks in Manchester last night in the IMAX (for transformers I'll have you know)
Loads of wannabe hogwarts students running around waiting for the midnight showings - Of course the IMAX dies in the middle of our film - dont know if they got it going for the 00.01 showing of Hairy Pitta ??
Anyone there?
Simes.

Took my daughter to see it this evening - she's been counting the days till it came out. She loved it as did most of the other kids in the cinema. I quite enjoyed it although I did find myself checking my watch a few times to see how much longer it was going on for. I'm not too sure about the 3D, still seems a bit gimicky to me.
There were several comical moments that I suspect weren't meant to be comical and, if you're taking your kids to see it then be warned that there may be tears.
Overall not a bad film and certainly much better than the last one.

I don't think 3D would add to the film to be honest.
I think it did. The first film I've seen in 3D and I was quite impressed.
What impressed me more was how good the film was in line with the book, I mean, It's never going to be perfect.
Was a good ending, but a shame to see it all finish.

Just dont get it at all. Not at all. He is a child who can defeat an adult. How often does that ever happen? Its a childrens story to make kids feel better. Nothing more.
I'm not a fan of the Harry Potter series (I've not seen, or read any of them as it happens), but your argument is flawed as far as cinematic (or even theatrical) premises go.It's a common conceit that the underdog wins. See Die Hard. See Star Wars. See Indiana Jones. See just about an adversarial film that you care to mention.
One person vs "evil" or "bad" : the hero wins.
It's entertainment and willing suspension of disbelief (at the risk of going all Blackadder Goes Forth)
Made my first visit to BFI IMAX (Largest screen in UK 20m X 26m - superb single screen cinema in the middle of a roundabout!)
Ended up seeing at 3am as was all booked out, had great central rear seats so was worth it.
3D was pretty good, a few scenes didn't work though. Really great film, didn't get all the in-jokes as haven't seen most of them.

The wife and I went on Sunday night, it was very good, the best of the lot. It was on in 5 screens, 2 in 3D and 3 in standard. We went for the 3D. I dunno, you just felt you would miss the extra experience if you didn't, but I don't really think it needed it. In fact it might have distracted a bit. Plus, I think it's a bit of a rip charging 3 quid more for the privelage. How the hell do you spell that word cos that ain't right
