Why is everyone so obsessed with Top Gear?
Discussion
And why does everyone take Clarksons word as gospel? I.e. you can't be a petrolhead because you haven't driven this or that, or this particular car is crap when in actual fact, it's an OK car, he just doesn't like it.
Have some people lost the ability to think for themselves? Or did they ever have it to begin with?

My sister who has no interest in cars other than as an appliance, was looking for a new car. She has been driving a Mazda demio for the last ten years.
A car supermarket had some runout vectras with delivery mileage and balance of mfrs warranty. I think they were around £5 k. Which is a lot of car for the money. She refused to even look at one because clarkson said they were rubbish. I did ask her what he thought of the demio but I did not get a response. She bought a Toyota aygo in the end

My original point is why do so many people take anything that's said on TG as gospel?
It may be - I suspect - that most of the TG viewers are diametrically opposite to PH'ers in that they drive cars, but are not car enthusiasts. Thus they know bog all about cubic capacities / torque / grip vs handling and most other things car related. In the world of things "car related" they are simple creatures; there's no point in talking lb/ft or Nm of torque as they'll glaze over and then turn over the channel. TG is good for them, as they probably feel in tune with other "petrolheads" when they can quote "torques" and "horsepowers" thanks to JC and Andy Willman cleverly identifying the demographic of the average TG viewer. I imagine that the only time an "average" TG viewer buys a car mag is when they need a new MPV, and require the advice of What Car. Whilst us lot on 'ere regularly buy EVO and Octane (well, I do anyway).
For us PH'ers, I suspect that TG is nothing more than entertainment with a car bias. I personally like that, more so that it is presented by three total petrolheads.
