I thought so.

My wife and I used them one night to get the number for a business we were looking for. Four times on the bounce they connected us to the wrong number - at considerable cost.

On the 5th time, as my wife was hanging up she remarked to me that they were Fecking idiots. The operator (who was in all fairness a fecking idiot) obviously heard this.

At 6am the next morning I turned my phone on and was astonished to hear this message:

"Hello - if you call 118 118 again don't call us idiots, because we will find you, and we WILL kill you"

It was perhaps the least menacing death threat of all time. That notwithstanding what spindlebks on the line failed to relise is that I have a pretty good idea of how call centres work - having managed one for a time.

Of course having left a message it was time stamped - and it wouldn't have taken very much interrogation of their system to find out exactly which operator made the call.

Their Chief exec phoned me personally to apologise and sent me wife a bunch of flowers. Laughing boy got sacked. The moron was particulary strong in him.

Our windscreen was chipped the other day but b0ll0xed will I be phoning Autoglass as I spend half my waking day turning down that sthead Gavin and his mates diatribe on TV and radio.

So I phoned National Windscreens. Nice people.

Anyone else put off and gone elsewhere as a result of a company's poxy advertising?
And how do they pay for that advertising?

For autoglass to replace my back windscreen - £340

National windscreens - £180

Cheaper isn't always better.

There are companies out there that are fitting glass cheaper than what others can even buy the glass in at. How?

Cheaper non-branded stuff from overseas / loss leader tactics / corners cut on fitting or just a blatant Eddie Stobart approach to undercut everyone in the locality out of business.

It's a race to the bottom for a lot of them.

There are times that I'm quite happy about this because most people with a fully functioning brain will question why 'something isn't right' about their newly glazed vehicle and seek the advice of someone who doesn't give them a flannel soaking dripping with piss.

I won't use anyone that's listed as a sponsor on fake road safety charity BRAKE's website.

Well national windscreens were also the approved installer by my insurance company which is why I contacted them for a price, despite not having windscreen insurance cover.

You do understand that 'approved' is just a policyholder-friendly way of saying, "we've got a cracking AIV deal with these people and therefore we would prefer that you used them, thank-you" ??

I do. I also understand that any competent business would not approve "cowboys".

Yes, agree. But they (and you) may find some of the images and reports I (as well as many of my peers) have on the extremely poor and shoddy examples churned out by the 'approved' repairers, interesting to say the least.

This is usually on the jobs which carry a higher complexity / market value, but standard production cars have probably been some of the worst I have ever seen.
