Surprised I can't see a topic on this.
Went last night - pretty sure I was the ou adult without a child i'n tow. Was also surprisingly quiet (huge queue for Harry potter next-door).
I liked it! Story's ok, predictable as expected. Slightly scary undertones of global warming guff.
But the animation!? It's magical! The detail is incredible, there must have been some real petrolheads on the team. Some of the vistas are absolutely beautiful. And on board shots too, so much fun to watch! Worth a trip I reckon.

I watched a Trailer for it while in the flicks for something else (Deathly Hallows pt2)....it looked awful from the clip
saying that I'm not writing it off, and will buy it on BluRay though..... I'm just not rushing back to the Cinema to see it
I'm glad to hear it is a visual feast (as per the first Cars movie)

Maybe I'm getting too old, but while I really like Cars (1) and Toy Story 3 was probably the best film I've seen in years, Cars2 bored me almost to sleep.
It felt like Michael Bay had taken over Pixar - it was just endless loud action sequences and rapid confusing dialogue with so many new characters featured for 30 seconds that neither my wife nor I could even follow it, and my 6 year old daughter was totally lost.
I just wanted it to SLOW DOWN A BIT. How a child was supposed to follow it I've no idea, it has one of the most convoluted plots I've yet seen in a children's film.
After about an hour I just gave up trying to enjoy it and just spotted the various car types being used.

It was my youngest lads 3rd birthday at weekend, he's a massive Cars fan (something that I don't encourage in the slightest, nooooo, never), so took him to see it.
Its not a patch on the first film, its more of a silly, action filled merchandising machine. But it was enjoyable, and it will have to be bought on bluray to catch all the various motoring in jokes.

Well I thought it was great - the attention to detail, all the different cars in the background, the sheer geekiness of some of it.
Even my (non-petrolhead) missus was laughing out loud and my eight year old son loved it. I think he would have not enjoyed another gentle film like Cars 1 as much this time round, so it was good that there was a bit more going on.

Completely lacking in charm or the joy of simple story telling. It was an animated action film albeit visually stunning with some great details.
Get everyone involved to watch the first 15 mins of UP so see how it is done. Less is more.
Cars 2 is the worst Pixar film yet. Very disappointing.
Yes, it lacked the underlying emotive plot of Cars 1. Cars 2 was like a Borne Identity for kids, except just as complicated. The CGI was stunning especially in London but the sub-plots were just too much, the humour less apparant and as a result I nearly fell asleep. Would be surprised if there is a 3rd.
Probably the least enjoyable Pixar movie I have ever seen.

From an adults perspective, its not a great film, although we've got to remember that its not really targeted at adults - it is a kids film, and on that count it works well.
For my lad, seeing cars flying all over the place, zoom zoom, mcqueen, etc. it was great.
View it through a kids eyes, and its a good film.

We went to see this yesterday after having spent the past 3 years looking forward to it! We saw the first Cars film dozens of times in the cinema, and the wait between the end of the cinema run and the release of the DVD was painful to say the least. ("Mu-um, why can't we watch Cars today?")
I must admit, I was disappointed.
First off, it was just too much! There was stacks of action, but it felt as though they were trying to pack in as much as possible. With almost no respite. It was loud and colourful and fast and constant go-go-go - I'm just glad our son wasn't any younger, because it's a pain having to explain every little twist and turn of the plot to someone who's just not able to follow it.
Secondly, I'm aware that the Pixar staff adore the character of Mater, but he's not the brightest star in the firmament and there's a limit to how many times stupid actions can coincidentally be just the right thing to do. It grates after a while. And that sodding "dadgum" expression really is very, very annoying. Please, Pixar, take note. Please. Put Mater out to pasture next time. Let him rust in peace.
The thing that's so fantastic about Pixar films is that they mix humour with pathos, Toy Story 3 being a brilliant example of this. But in Cars 2, there was no pathos (except the small hint at the beginning about Doc) and very little humour as such. (Or maybe that was just me being a miserable git. ) It could have been any action film, with any characters. It didn't need the Cars characters at all.
And what really got us about the film was that in Cars, the underlying message was "racing - and winning - is good, but other things in life are just as important". In Cars 2, the racing was just tagged on as a sideline to the plot. The informal competition between Lighting and Francesco was mentioned as a scene-setter, but then it was hardly noted at all (you had to look hard to see which of them crossed the line first on every occasion!). In fact, I got the impression that the racing was just there as an excuse to move the entourage from country to country. Sure, there was a lot of great car imagery and incredible attention to detail as always (Zündapp and Gremlin though? Bit esoteric, no?), but who's going to be interested in that apart from PHer types?
Cars 2 should have been great. It was good enough I suppose, but it wasn't great. We saw Kung Fu Panda 2 when it came out a few weeks ago, and that was a lot better. Sorry Pixar! I love Pixar films and no doubt I'll buy this one when it's out on Blu-ray - and we'll probably go at see it another couple of times at the cinema so that I can take in more of the bits inevitably missed on a first viewing! But it's not a classic. It felt like they were trying to use as many characters as possible - including half a dozen different Maters - so that there'd be plenty of little characters to sell in the shops. We were struggling to keep up with all the characters in the first film, now the second one has added another couple of hundred to the mix! And no doubt there'll be a Finn McMissile (thank you Michael Caine for pronouncing "missile" correctly!) with guns, one with bombs, one with dents, one tied up...
Pixar only release one film a year, and I'm afraid this year I'm left feeling a little deflated. That was this year's, I've seen it and now I have to wait 12 months for Brave to come out! Not like Cars at all, where we saw it over and over - and in fact we still watch it a lot. Cars 2 is interesting, but it's too full-on to be really exciting.
Mind you, ask me again when I've seen it four or five times. I might think differently then.

Loved the first one, saw the 2nd on Friday with my 5 year old boy. I thought it was ok, visually it was stunning (as you expect from pixar) Story as said could have been better, but the action was pretty good in it.
My boy loved it, he spent most if not all of the film leaning on the seat in front (which was empty) glued to the screen.
Will be good on blu-ray, and I wonder if its one of those that will get better every time you watch it, and notice more.

Im sure they had the union flags upside down when the cars were racing through London! Could have been a subtle ploy to indicate they were in trouble.....
Anyway, my 9 year old loved it....talked about it the whole way home, I for one was bored senseless pretty much throughout. There were the odd laugh-out-loud moments....but that was about it.
LHs part was awful! But thought it was funny he was in a black car....certainly given his recent reference to "Iz it cos I is black?"

This sums it up. Its a childrens film! The way some of you are reviewing it is as if its a serious drama.
If the kids love it then job done IMO
The best Pixar films have worked for both kids and adults. If the kids love it then job done IMO
