Who's your favourate actor/actress? and why?

Mine:
Heath Ledger: His performance in the dark knight was incredible.Mesmerizing. Have yet to see a film of his in which he gives a bad performance. His roles were also diverse which IMO is the mark of a great actor/actress.

My Favourite Actor; Samuel L. Jackson because he is just super cool, even in his early roles in Boyz in the Hood etc. And yes, even Snakes on a Plane

My Favourite Actress; probably.........Natalie Portman.....I guess because of the characters she gas played and the films she has been in. particularly her role in Leon at such a young age, amazing.

I didn't think he was in Boyz n the Hood. You sure you aren't thinking of Larry Fishburne?

Steve Buscemi. The more reprehensible his character, the harder it is to imagine anyone else in his place. Rarely has to raise his voice to be utterly believable, does it all with his eyes and a tilt of the head.
Not like that Jackson fellow someone mentioned. (But I like him as well smile)

Helena Bonham Carter is always a delight; even just baking meat pies. And she shares my birthdaysmile

Yep I'd agree with Steve Buscemi, though to pick ab absolute favourite is quite tough.

One of my favourite actresses is Maggie Smith, she is fantastic in every role she plays, shame she's getting on a bit now.

Yeah gotta be Benicio Del Toro. Take his performances in The Usual Suspects, Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas, The Che films and Traffic, all great IMO and varied, not typecast either. I like a film where I can forget who the actor is and immerse myself in the character they are playing.
Re Kevin Spacey - smashing performance in LA Confidential but so too were Russell Crowe and Guy Pearce.

tough choice...

among my favourites would be

John Cusack
Billy bob thornton
denzel
malkovich
gary oldman

but for sheer versatility and the fact that he takes on challenging roles and never fails to make them believable I would say

Phillip Seymour Hoffman - from MI 3 where he blew the cruiser off the screen to The boat that Rocked, Almost Famous, Capote...etc

just a pleasure to watch on screen and a bit underrated imho

as for actresses...Kate Winslet.

Some excellent suggestions so far, I'll throw in Anthony Hopkins as he's just a brilliant and engaging actor and of course Tony Soprano himself, James Gandolfini, absolute class. Uma Thurman also gets my vote.

Always liked Dudley Moore & Richard Pryor because they both make me laugh.
Also John Candy for the same reason
