Up until a few days ago I'd never seen the godfather but was well aware of it's following. The girlfriend hadn't seen it either so she borrowed her brothers box set for us to watch, seen as though we seem to be the only 2 people on the planet that hadn't seen it.

I really cannot understand what the cult following is about? We got through the first and half of the second film and highly doubt we will watch any more. I really honestly thought it was st. Am I alone or does anyone else not get it too????

I'm with you... Don't see the ravings about it. Find other mafia type films far better, and far more involving, and entertaining. Mind you, I think Apocalypse Now to be a bit gash as well! boxedin

Maybe the "hype" spoiled it for you?

It's one of the few films I can watch again and again. smile

Like you I too saw the film later on in life. I liked it but it's not my favourite. The 2nd one is the best IMO.

I can watch many films over, but the Godfather is easily one of the best mafia films. It's very intricate.
I prefer the first. It's a bigger more complete film for me.

Read the book and discover that even the original film is far from complete. Details such as Lucy Mancini's 'personal dimension problem' that only Sonny Corleone could cope with...

Wash your mouth out with soap OP - the Godfather 1 & 2 are two of the best films ever!
