I don't watch a lot of TV and prefer to just get entire series box sets. I can't find a generic thread where people suggest series from UK/US/wherever.

I tend to go on friends suggestions borrow/download a series and see if I get along with it.

Most recently I've watched Sons of Anarchy:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1124373/

US series about a drug/gun running motorcycle gang with various rivalries and a strange set of morals. Surprising good and kept me up later than necessary through the need to watch the next epsiode. Series 3 has just finished in the US.

Thoroughly enjoyable and well acted.

Throw your suggestions here please people, any genre, any language. IMDB links appreciated if in existence.

Seen Battlestar Galactica?

Mix of drama, action, politics, romance and just about every other genre set in a sci-fi world.

Some of the later seasons suffer from a few filler episodes where the pace slows a little but overall it is fantastic series.

I think I saw episode one of Burn Notice and meant to keep up with it. Not seen BSG, as I'm not traditionally a SciFi person. However more recently I've been braodening my horizons so will give it a go. thumbup

I started watching a new US series online called Alphas... it's enjoyable but a bit cliched, kind of a dumbed down version of Heros mixed with a few other genres. Easy watching, not overly involving though.

  • Deadwood (cancelled before completing but worthwhile anyway)
  • Rome
  • Rescue Me (one of my favs and the only TV to ever cause me to literally LOL quite often)
  • Firefly (and the movie Serenity to finish)
  • Carnivale (bit of a slow burner but interesting - be warned though, this is another series cancelled before completing)
  • Spartacus for blood, guts, and near-porn
  • Game of Thrones series 1 only at the mo but awesomly excellent
  • Band of Brothers for a single series of utter excellence

SoA new series starts in Sept.

Matching the thoughts of the other guys on here, there are some shows you just have to see, all these below are must see shows, in order of my favourite:-

1) Dexter- just brilliant, every series gets better and better.
2) The Wire- stick with it, starts slow, gets superb.
3) Entourage- funny, stunning women, what more could you want??
4) The Shield- gritty, tense, violent, first season is average but then gets better and better.
5) Prison Break- season 1 and 2 are superb, 3 and 4 not so much but watch first two anyway.
6) 24- was my favourite by a long mile then they dragged it out a bit, all 8 series for £79 quid on play at the moment, the first 3 series are immense-kiss goodbye to your social life, you wont leave the couch.
7) Sopranos- class, bit slow at times but great in the whole.
8) Still Game- dont know if you guys got it on tv down south but its prob the funniest british comedy ever, laugh out loud funny with great characters.
9) Band of Brothers- BUY IT BUY IT, oops this should have been number 2 in my list smile

10) The Unit- Special ops series, really enjoyable, better than the crap British rip offs.
11) Spartacus- as the chap earlier said, good way of slowly introducing your missus to porn biggrin

Definitely The Wire and Band of Brothers.

I also seriously rate Treme, but if you think The Wire is slow it's doubtful you will perceive any movement at all in this show. biggrin

Which British rip offs? Only similar thing I can think of is Strike Back, which is a bit different. Any others off my radar?

"Ultimate Force" perhaps?
