Suggestions please...

I want you guys to give me lists of your favorite books/films/tv shows that haven't been put on the big screen recently, anything, not genre specific, just something that was about over 15 years ago that hasn't already been remade, at least not by hollywood/film4/etc
Basically me and my brother make films, so far we have made only very short scenes, to learn how to use the equipment to the best of our ability, we both feel we have gotten fairly decent, and want to have a pop and a proper short, any suggestions are welcome.
Oh this isnt to try and make money, just for fun with what we already have at our disposal, to be creative and hopefully to make something that someone will like.
