As I keep saying - no point in explaining.

You will NEVER convince anybody who doesn't find something funny why you find that same thing funny. It just doesn't work that way.
I've read a couple of good explanations, as to why individuals find particular things funny. I may not agree with them but it doesn't make their explanations any less relevant. smile

Excuse me, but I think you'll find this isn't the right thread for an agreement [/python]

I'll watch just about anything, the TV in our house is almost permanently on as wallpaper. While we'll watch the Daily Politics, Only Connect, BBC4 documentaries etc. we plumb the absolute depths of TV including Splash, TOWIE, MIC, I'm a Celebrity get me out of here, Come Dine with Me, Loose Women and Celebrity Big Brother. Even Miranda and Not Going Out make the cut. It's shameful what utter dross gets put on rather than turning it off.

MBB is so bad even we won't watch it. The mother-in-law is the only person I know that watches it and she absolutely loves it. I just don't get it.

I realised soon after posting to be honest. I certainly don't want to come across as the type of person who agrees with stuff just for the hell of it. smile

2 small things (oooer) eek

Firstly, great to see that MBB won 'Best Comedy of the Year' at the National TV awards last night smile

Secondly, interesting to see that on the Vic and Bobs new series thread, there are some folk who don't find it funny!

Incidently, I also find it hilarious biggrin

MBB is very deserving of all the accolades it receives and is written and acted by some incredibly talented people but looking at some of the company it's in in the National TV awards, I would be reluctant to use winning that award as evidence of said talent.

I mean - Educating Yorkshire as best documentary? Am I the only one that recognised that was a spoof documentary?

That has got to be the ultimate accolade for a comedy documentary when it wins a serious award.

When are the producers coming out saying it was all actors and just a wind up?

I've been to Yorkshire and they're not really like that.

Winning that award you could almost compare it to a real life "The Producers" but less credible.

Why is it a spoof documentary? I'm not saying you're wrong, but I watched and enjoyed it at face value? What does ''I've been to Yorkshire and they're not really like that'' even mean?

First of all, I apologise for my previous post. I didn't mean to be offensive but re-reading it, it could be taken that way.

To answer the question as to why it was a spoof, I felt EY was accentuating the stereotyped view of Yorkshire and people from Yorkshire. Bordering on insulting if it was trying to be a serious program.

As a modern subtle version of a Brass Tacks it was good. As a piece of serious documentary? I clearly have to realign my views.

My comment about them not being like that may in fact be a mistake on my part. If that program is representative of the behaviour of teachers and school children today, I am out of touch with the world or at least Yorkshire.

No good documentary comes to mind from the past year and the other award winners were largely deserving in my opinion so maybe EY was the best.

Going back to the thread, MBB deserves to be recognised and I am happy that it has.

So you believe EY - which was a widely lauded, powerful and moving documentary to be a spoof?

And believe MBB to be a worthy winner of a television award?

What's it like under your bridge this morning?

Very nice thank you smile

The beauty of PH is that we all get to air our views, even the crazy ones.

I must add that I didn't spend much time with EY as the short time I did spend watching it formed my opinion I've expressed so didn't watch any more.

Maybe those who don't appreciate MBB fell the same way.

I was using the example of EY to support that maybe the TV awards are not a sure sign of quality but thanks for pointing out I may be wrong. smile

I could be wrong, but I've always assumed MBB is supposed to be naff. The acting is shocking, I mean really, really bad. I've always just assumed it's because the main man him/herself writes it all and thought "bks to everyone, I'll cast my family and if they don't like it they can fk off."
I've always assumed it's not supposed to be taken seriously, which is why about a year ago I did sit through most of them and sometimes even produced a small quiet chuckle. I do think Brenden O'Carroll (is that his name?) has good comic timing, and I always piss my pants when there's a 'blooper' i.e they open the curtains and there's a cameraman there. Or sometimes when they go improv (it's filmed 'live' infront of an audience).

But....it's not that funny. Most of the characters are st, with the exception of Buster and her mate Winnie, but they're over concentrated too - almost characatures of their characters.
I think (and bear in mind I've said I watched it for quite a while) it's simple humour for perhaps the slightly more simple of folk. If there were any clever subtle gags in it like in Blackadder or Extras, they might go unnoticed by the target audience slightly.

That's not to say clever people won't like it of course, but I think it's dumbed down to an extent. And if the bad-acting/amatuer dramatics aspect of it isn't deliberate then it really is st!!

.....and it has to be more than coincidence that it's often on TV straight after Miranda!

My Gran likes it. She's 94 and also likes "Call the Midwife" with Miranda Hart.
