Well, Lucas being a giant knob or not, I still enjoy watching 'The Clone Wars'.

yes

Although it is still weird seeing the Stormtroopers as goodies, and knowing Anakin is a git.

I recall fondly enjoying the first series of Ewoks, and Droids as well.

Well, it's funny you should say that. But the Battle of Endor was originally going to be with Wookiees but then George Lucas realised he had already established that Wookiees were competent with guns and flying star ships, which ruined the idea of "savages beating technology" that he wanted, so had to invent the Ewoks.

O/T, some Star Wars names show up just how much of a petrolhead George Lucas is. Jedi made Formula Junior cars in the '60s and '70s, Jawa were a Czech firm that made motorcycle and single-seater racer engines, and it's interesting how car culture has been transposed in the films with things like landspeeders and podracers.

IIRC he wasn't a bad racing driver in his youth and turned to filmmaking after a particularly bad crash.

Anyone have a little thought in the back of their heads that the jedi are actually a quite creepy sort of secret police, who get pretty miffed if you don't do as they say?

Oh, definitely. Taking children from their parents at a young age, indoctrinating them, etc. yes

They're also very stupid.

"So, this child will bring balance to The Force"
"He's dangerous, master"
The Jedi are all powerful.
Balance to The Force
"He's dangerous, master"
Imbalance of The Force towards the Jedi

Duhhhhhhhhhhhhh.....

LET'S TRAIN HIM!!!

My thoughts exactly, at that point the Jedi were on top, all powerful with no one to challange them and the Sith were non-existant. Surely they should have realised that any "balancing" which occured wasn't going to be good news for the Jedi?
