I'd argue the HD picture didn't look quite as crisp on the BBC either.
It doesn't. Despite having access to whatever media I choose without paying a licence fee or money to sky^ I prefer the BBC's coverage even if it isn't in 'full HD and motherfking awesome surround 9.6' or whatever.
The quality of journalism and integrity of the BBC is a different class.
^for the turdwits banging on about copyright I don't live in the UK but have access to both the BBC and Sky feeds totally legally as well as several others.

Moronic comments. Do they have anger management clinics 'over there'?Despite having access to whatever media I choose without paying a licence fee or money to sky^ I prefer the BBC's coverage even if it isn't in 'full HD and motherfking awesome surround 9.6' or whatever.

You may have legal access to Sky but we turdwits were commenting on those who pilfer content illegally. If your chum has similar legal access fine, then I for one will withdraw my post/criticism, but many do steal through illegal use of torrents etc. and enough boast of doing so to warrant a general criticism of those who do. Not to mention the hypocrites who refuse to patronise someone/ a company they don't like... yet are happy enough to benefit from their work illegally.

I presume all the outraged moralists here have never copied a CD or breached any copyright ever?
Not only that but I used to be a shareware author. I found myself spending more and more time writing code to try and stop people getting my products for free and then one day discovered a tutorial online on how to defeat copy protection that used one of my applications as the example program. I couldn't be arsed after that. I made some of my products freeware, simply withdrew others, and never bothered updating any of them again.
(It wasn't a snap decision - I was most of the way there anyway but the tutorial was the straw that broke the camel's back)

Not having Sky in any format at all I am not going to fund Murdoch's pot despite watching F1 sice the mid-60s. The first GP I saw was @ Aintree in 1962.
So how do I keep up to speed?
Simple, I stream Sky coverage off the internet in HD quality, plug my laptop into the TV and the only service I don't access is the red button.
Job done!
Could you please post your name and address so I can report you to the authorities, given that you are stealing from me and all the other subscribers as well as the demon Murdoch. So how do I keep up to speed?

Do you refuse to shop in stores that sell anything 'unethical' too?
I bet you were cheering on the 'right on' looters fighting the evil capitalists and the system during the riots too. OK to steal, as long as it's from those you deem to be bad.

Just watched the BBC version. The commentary was adequate but not as good as previous years. Not sure who the main guy was but at times he sounded like a young enthusiastic Nicholas Parsons! I missed Martin Brundle's informed and wittily dry input.
Same here,Watched my first race of 2012 on the Beeb this weekend. I really, really enjoyed the pre-race, it was like going back to your favorite pub and finding all your mates in there..
Anyway, pointless nostagia aside. I had planned to watch the pre-race on BBC and switch to Sky for the race, but I couldn't drag myself out of bed and away from the OH early enough and if I'd tried to record both feeds our Son would have done terrible things to the recordings to get Ben10 on.
I did miss MB, and it's a shame Parsons seems to be lead leaving DC for technical input, he seems to suffer from the same problem as MB's sidekick. He struggles to pick out the correct driver/car all that quickly. Not the end of the world, but it gives you the idea he's not quite on it. Caterham in the pit, red Angrybirds lid - "That's Vitaly in the pits" and I'm thinking... nope, that's Heikki.
I've decided if I'm actually home and awake for the race and it's a BeeB race I'll stick to BBC pre-race, swtich to MB for the Race.
Otherwise I'll record the BBC when they have it, Sky when they have it.
P.S. One thing BBC, pick one guy (not EJ) to do the grid walk, not sure about the last two, but that was a proper mess yesterday.

I caught a glimpse of EJ whilst MB was doing his grid walk and EJ gave the barest nod of acknowledgement to MB but no more. One thing I did notice is that people seem less willing to talk to Brundle now that he doesn't have 'BBC' on his microphone. I found his grid walk curiously stilted yesterday.

No surprise the numbers are down as you now have to pay to watch it.
Personally, I'm good with just seeing the race, with a short delay (Was China on live, btw?) - I marvel at how much of my weekend I use to waste watching practice and qualifying during peak 'doing something useful' hours.
I don't feel I've lost anything by not having live F1 coverage - It's great!

Presume you are a thief. Or just an apologist for thieves?
I was surprised that a simple 'watched it on the internet' comment attracted such voracious attacks out of the blue. No doubt if you found a 2p piece on the pavement you'd take it to a police station.P-Jay said:

I was thinking how hard it was to tell some cars apart. They used to be basically one colour per team, but now they're are so splattered with multicolours it can be hard for the amateur to keep up. The cutting between cameras wasn't great at times but that's down to the local director I think, not the BBC.Simpo Two said:

I'm not sure that there is a "local director" any more. I think FOM deal with the televising each race for consistency now, probably using the same director or, at the very least, a pool of approved ones. It's no bad thing - back in the days where we did have local directors, it was very partisan with far too much time being allocated to the local driver(s). Understandable, but annoying.

Heh, can you imagine a Grand Prix as bent as the Eurovision Song Contest?IIRC wasn't there a time when Peugeot took over Le Mans and promptly disqualified everything that wasn't a Peugeot? Some French outfit anyway.
I watched Oz gp on bbc and just couldn't get into it didnt enjoy the commentary and the highlights just didnt do it for me. A week later I bought Sky+HD pack and have never looked back the sky team are just much better and they have lot's of ex drivers as pudits Damon hill, Johnny Herbert, Martin Brundle, Ant davidson. BBC only have DC who isnt that great to be honest. Not only that but the F1 channel plays some other really good programmes when they arent replaying F1. The F1 Legends programmes are brilliant.
