My daughter and I went to see Avengers this afternoon. It was playing at all six screens, so we chose the most expensive one, 3D, hoping the bums, squatters and ne'erdowells would keep away. Still cost us about £7 to get in though.

Well, it was pretty full, and we had two women and a young kid sat immediately behind us, the sort of kid who is just a bit too young to know you are meant to be quiet in the cinema, and the sort of women who are just a bit too retarded and selfish to know you are meant to be quiet in the cinema.

Anyway, the movie was mega loud, so they didn't disturb us too much.

Not a bad movie all in all. Though I did some serious laughing when Hulk picked up the 'god' Loki and wet ragged him back and forth on the floor. roflroflrofl

+1 for happier to wait and watch it on my own sofa.

O/H on occasion has us go to a film though, most recent was the muppets at the local cineworld, where a rude and surley attendant stopped just short of telling us to fk off for being a bit early, then they put on the wrong and incidentally 18 rated film- cue all the parents scooping their sprogs up & out a bit sharpish. Plus it was a sunday afternoon and the foyer was full of fking christians having just had one of those creepy whackjob evangellical sermons via satellite or whateveron another screen. Pretty shambolic all round really.

Saw Reservoir Dogs back at Uni when it was released and someone near the back starts spewing at the 'ear' scene - cue student laughter as we think it's hammed-up. Nope, turns out it's real - poor chap staggers down the stairs and out the door a minute later!

A few weeks ago I went to the cinema and a family sat in front of me with two kids. The two kids then proceeded to sing a Justin Bieber song, in the middle of the fking film. Not quietly, practically screaming it and what do the parents do? Laugh and tell them they can sing quite well. Talking and singing all the way through the film.

The urge to slap that fker on the head was overwhelming me that I actually left the cinema.

fk the cinema. fk it up its fking overpriced full of rude s arse.

Just returned from the local Odeon in the sttest mood ever (QPR-Spurs result not helping).

Firstly, ticket prices. What the shuddering fk - £12.65 for a regular adult single. Add on an extra quid for the 3D glasses, multiply by two and you've near enough nailed £30 to watch a film. fking scandal. Cheap date it is not!

Popcorn and drink - £7.50 for a 'large combo'. To add further insult to already evident severe injury, smug coloured posters proclaim with combos you save 40p. Nice one. s.

Well, no matter. Expensive ticket, overpriced food perhaps the experience will be worth it?

Will it fk.

s talking all the way throughout. Some utter bellend of a woman brought an 8 year old to the film (t'was a 12) and let the little st chat constantly, on and on and on. Plenty of other adults talking however and barely an effort made to whisper.

By this point in time I'm getting chest pain from the rage and it isn't helped by the loudest rustlers of ever. What the are these fat fks eating that is louder than super duper Dolby Digital sound!? Not even a slight effort to keep it down a touch. IN addition, people constantly getting up and down, up and down, up and down. Sort your fking bladders/bowels/attitudes out.

Now I'm a reasonable chap (I promise). I also really enjoy watching films on the big screen - you know the whole big picture/sound experience. Occasionally, a little whispering may be fair and you do need to eat your popcorn, that's what happens in the cinema but today was a st storm of ludicrousness. I'm not a fan of the great unwashed at the best of times and this has not helped my lack of endearment. Utter fking rage and genuinely spoilt my enjoyment of the film.

Why the fk am I going to pay extortionate prices to sit next to s talking and eating with no consideration for anyone but their high BMI, socially retarded and frankly rude as fk selves?

fk you Odeon. And fk you film makers with your y 'you wouldn't steal a car' promo adverts to discourage illegal downloads.

From now on, I'll be streaming online buying the DVD and sitting slightly closer to the screen.
Great rant, did you visit the cinema with a friend from SN? A chap over there having a very similar rant smile

Watchdog on Popcorn prices -the profit mark ups are scandalous eek
"We tried and found we could buy popcorn for 33 pence per 100 grams if the order was big enough, and we could also buy printed boxes for 10 pence. So making a 62 gram box like Cineworld's would cost 21 pence for the popcorn - that's 31 pence in total. Selling this at £4.00 as cinemas do, that's makes for just under a 1200% markup! Very tasty."

I have lived in Croatia for 18 months and I still love the Cinema. Granted I hated it in the UK.

Just to add insult to injury, it costs me £3.50 to see a film on an average screen....
Where we live normal movies are £2 and 3D is about £3.50 biggrin

It makes it a little easier to tolerate the cretins and bottom feeders when you don't have to part with £30 to take the wife and sprog to the movies. yes

Went to see Avengers 3D two days ago, after first 10 mins I noticed there was no 3D stuff coming up and I decided to take the glasses off and to my shock the quality was actually better!

Turns out the bds had put the 2D version, anyway we got free tickets for next time, but I'm still pretty pissed that I didn't get to see Avengers in 3D

Thinking about the last films I went to see in the USA, Senna cost me $7.50 on a Saturday afternoon and taking my son to Cars 2 cost $5 each. In the evening the prices increase by about $5 a ticket. Drinks and snacks were hideously expensive - so we just didn't buy any. The drinks and snacks are the price they are because people still pay for them.

As home cinemas improve I am sure that traditional cinemas will close in favour of digitally downloadable movies, it will also probably improve profitability for the studios and distributor as numerous middlemen in the distribution chain can be eliminated. That said, the big screen makes for a nice experience, you just need to pick the venue and time well if there is something you really want to see.

In Manchester, we have one of the only two AMC cinemas in the UK. The place is pretty empty most of the time, with their NHS offer OR student offer, it's around £5 per ticket, most sales staff let you combine this offer with the orange wednesday offer aswell, so that makes it £2.50 per person!

Even on Orange Wednesdays the seats tends to be only half filled. In fact, half filled is probably being generous..

Been to Odeon in Trafford Centre, hated it. Been to cineworld in didsbury, made it to as far as the queues(It was jam packed!), then turned back and headed straight for AMC!

This AMC is the sole reason why I still go to cinemas!

Yet to try out VUE in Salford though, don't see why I should tbh. But has anybody been there?

I remember that, good show.

Of course, the cinemas are being forced into huge markups to keep profits up due to people not coming having downloaded a naff camcorder copy of the films where all you see is a fuzzy image thats gives you a vague indication of what may be happening in the film.

Or something like that.

Stop buying it. The people like you paying through the nose is what keeps this going.

Slightly different to the cinema, but still OT,

I have the Lord of the Rings on DVD, the theatrical release for the fellowship, and two towers, but the extended return of the king.

I fancied watching a lord of the rings marathon at the weekend, rain battering off the window, so nothing much else to do on a rainy Saturday.

So the Wednesday before I thought I would nip in to my local supermarket and try and find the extended versions of the first 2 movies.

Tesco, not in stock, Asda, not in stock. OK, I thought, my local video store will probably have it. Blockbuster, not in stock, even HMV didn't have it in stock, but they could order it in for me. 3 weeks!! 3 weeks? This isn't some 1980's obscure TV show episode 3 of 5 ffs!

OK, starting to get annoyed, I'll order it from Amazon, order placed Wednesday, relieved of £17 for the 2 films. Delivery for Friday ready for Saturday.

Friday comes and goes no DVD. Saturday, no DVD, email on Saturday afternoon saying that 'due to an unexpected delay, there may be 2 extra business days to wait until delivery.

I'm trying to do the right thing here, but what's the point.

2 seconds on the pirate bay and you can find the lord of the rings blu-ray ripped to mkv.

No wonder people pirate material.
