No wonder people download films illegally.
Discussion
I haven't been to the cinema in years. The last time was one of the early Harry Potter movies at the Streatham Odeon. Half-witted teenage innit girls having loud conversations on phones. Some guy gets up to ask them to be quiet and it all kicks off.
I don't download pirate copies now. I just wait until it comes on TV or buy a DVD copy on Amazon if I'm really desperate. It's a fraction of the price (particularly taking into account the popcorn factor) and the lack of utter wkers in my sitting room more than outweighs the smaller screen size. Plus I can control the volume and bass to sensible levels.

I'm somewhat bemused by the content of this thread. I fully agree that prices are obscene these days, and I loathe 3D cinema, but I've never had a problem with the other people in the cinema?
The overwhelming majority of my cinema-going these days is taking the kids to see the Kids' Club film on weekend mornings at 11 at the Epsom (or occasionally Taunton) Odeon. It's £2.50 per kid and free for adults, so it's usually pretty packed, and once the film begins behaviour is generally impeccable. Sure, it's seeing the film some months after release rather than when it's new, but the kids love it and it costs peanuts. It's just a shame there isn't an adult equivalent.
On the rare occasions that we do go to see adult films in the evening (less often, as it gets eyewatering once you add the cost of babysitters on top), both cinemas are equally perfectly acceptable places to be, price aside.

I'm baffled by the need to eat and drink throughout the film.
Can't people just sit down for a couple of hours without needing to eat and drink.
Lst time I went a couple of years ago there was a (wide as he was tall) bloke in front of us with the a particularly stinky hot dog with lines of fluoresecnt red and yellow down it. He ate this before the film even started - why? Can't people just sit down for a couple of hours without needing to eat and drink.
I invested in a home cinema projector, screen and sound system a few years ago, not cheap, but soooo worth it.
Firstly this post is for this thread unless this post ends up in one about cars.
I do like to have a beer or a glass of wine whilst watching a film. Fortunately the cinema at the top of my road (ok, at the top of my road turn right and walk for 20 metres) serves beer and wine, has large chairs and tables and doesn't allow anything in crunchy packets. That suits me fine.

I watched 'A few good men' on TV last week, at no point did I feel the need for haribo's, hot dogs or a bucket of coke flavoured ice.
Completely agree - we never bother getting food when we go. Why on earth do people when it can almost double the cost of the tickets...Can't people just sit down for a couple of hours without needing to eat and drink.

Can't you just sit there and watch the film without having to munch through a bucket of chicken wings?

it's also a self fulfilling prophecy.
the more people download, the more cinemas will have to charge to make up the shortfall, which will encourage more people to download.
it's a sticky wicket and no mistake. The cinemas need to find a way of adding more value (i suppose 3D is a way of doing this)
Cinemas need to ban mobile phones and throw scroats out who use themthe more people download, the more cinemas will have to charge to make up the shortfall, which will encourage more people to download.

they need to enforce some etiquette rules in the cinema and employ security guards not afraid to enforce it and throw people out
Chat and you are warned do it again your out
