Rusty - you are one lucky man to own that car. It is surely one of the best WD cars ever. I have to agree with my lad on one particular point - the mustangs look better with the grille which contains the two spotlights. However, just a small point, and overall the car is lovely. My dream car would be a 'stang, fastback, RHD - pity they never made them RHD. What a project to convert; if I was 20 years younger with deep pockets and our current large workshop.......sigh....

I'm sure something will work out - not used pistonheads much but if you can send private messages send me your email address and number and I'll contact you about a trip I hopefully have planned to the NEC Classic Car Show next month with the car as I think Wheeler Dealers will want it on their stand. Maybe we could meet up there.
Your Mustang would be fantastic on the dream rides stand if WD don't want it?
Would also be great to see it if you are about - I'll be there Saturday & Sunday doing the rides for the sporting bears smile

I echo the comments above, the best car that has been on Wheeler Dealers by far and a great episode tainted only slightly by the stupid car chase they staged at the end.
One thing I didn’t understand was they kept referring to it as an A-code car. Is this the case if the engine isn’t original?

Not exactly sure what Dream Rides is (sorry for my ignorance) - if you PM me your details and a bit about Dream Rides I'll let you know when I find out from WD.

Thanks

Hands up - I haven't a clue. Except for my first cars (2 x MkII Cortinas a million years ago) I've only ever had US GM cars (65/67 Corvettes and a 53 Cadillac Convertible that I've had for 23 years and still own).

If anyone can enlighten us to what they meant by "A" code we'd be glad to hear from you. Sorry for the ignorance but you have to be honest about these things.

Thanks very much - it's really nice of you all to give such positive comments.

Funny how we all have different preferences - we prefer it without the extra lights as it makes the front less cluttered in our opinion so we're really happy with it exactly how it is. As they say, different strokes for different folks.

'A' code denotes the car left the factory in 67 with a 289ci 4v 225bhp engine. The other options in '67 were 'T' code 200ci stright 6 with 120bhp, 'C' code 289 2v with 200bhp, 'K' code 289 4v with 271bhp and the top 'S' code 390 big block with 320bhp.

I'll get my anarak!

Found this on Google, seems it's to do with the engine spec.

Thanks for that Darren,

I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to originality so find it hard to justify calling the car a genuine "A" code car unless it still has the original 289 engine etc. This car has an 80's 302 engine fitted, not the (or even AN) original 289 but at least it is a true V8 engined car and not a 6-pot that's had a V8 shoved in.

Truth be told we bought this car due to my son Adam's love of early Mustangs (I wanted to buy another early Corvette) but we knew the car had to be a good one (if not 100% factory original) because of the show.

Ok, so the colour and the engine aren't original but the condition and the price were pretty good considering all the work that'd been done which more than compensated for that. It's Adam's first yank (well, in some ways anyway !!) and I'm really happy for him that we ended up with such a nice car. Plus Darren, I'm sure you know the costs involved to do one of these properly to a high standard as yours looks unreal.

Ultimately I'd like to pull the engine, detail it and make it look more original but that's for the future when the initial "can't wait to drive it" phase has subsided.

More than likely just the light then. For £2000 I'd be very surprised if it was anything other than excellent.

The car looks superb by the way smile

Dont worry too much about originality, just look how stunning it looks!

I've had mine 8 years now, drove it for 5 and then rebuilt it to get it in the condition it is in today. It has cost a lot of money, but I dont think anything comes close for the sheer experience of driving it. I took it out this morning for a blast round the local villages as I hadnt been out in her for a few weeks. That was around 10am and I've still got a grin on my face!

Watching the show last night brought back memories when Mike went to California Mustang for the spares, as I visited there a few years ago on holiday for some bits. The wife wasnt best pleased if I remember!

If you need any assistance with anything dont be afraid to email me.

We need a few bits but I know of a guy at a company called Mustang Maniacs who's not too far from us. I was given his number and he seems really helpful, so much so that when I found out he was going to Vegas for a holiday last week I sheepishly asked him if he'd bring a starter motor back for one of my other cars and he agreed - nice guy !

The offer of assistance is much appreciated, I'm far from shy so will no doubt bend your ear pretty soon.

Love your taste in cars ! Mustangs are new to me but can see why they're so well loved, Corvettes are in my blood and will always be a passion. I had a 65 and 67 Coupe and miss them like hell - at the time selling them was a necessity but the way prices have gone I wish to god I hadn't had to.

Almost bought a 68 before the Mustang cropped up but we missed it - sort of glad now. I'll PM you when on pc - using an iPhone now which is a real pain.
