LoveFilm - gone to the dogs?
Discussion
I've been with Lovefilm for a few years, on an old legacy Amazon account with original Amazon terms/prices for 4 DVDs per month.
I miss the old Amazon system of individually prioritising everything. The high/low prioritisation does mean that you get some random stuff and can wait forever for popular titles, but it's OK. I find it works well if you keep the high priority list quite full - so on top of stuff I'd particularly like to see, I also add stuff just because it's recent and has scored well on user ratings (3.5 or above).
To be honest, if I didn't get the DVDs through the post, I'd have no life at all.

Never had a problem with them, been a member for years. It seems that some new films are coming out exclusive to Blockbusters, but its not a problem to nip there from time to time.
Their website has always been really slow, and recently prone to errors. But other than that, they turn my discs round quickly and I usually get stuff that is at high priority. (you watch it all go to pot now!)

Had Netflix for a couple of months but find the content lacking. Planning to give Lovefilm a try. Do all my streaming through an xbox and occassionally the laptop.
Used to be a postal member of lovefilm several years ago. Fell out with them after waiting 9 months for 1 film. Their service attitude was scripted and poor. After 9 months subscribtions they should have just bought me a copy of the bloody film.
Tried LF for a couple of months. Not compatible with my Nexus tablet so gone back to Netflix.

Only they don't stream anything in HD. So pretty pointless as far as I was concerned.
I still use LoveFilm for blu-rays, which i like to sit down and watch on the home cinema, but trying to watch streaming non-HD video just doesn't work. The future isn't quite here yet.
I've been getting annoyed lately due to all the reasons listed above - damaged discs that don't work or break-up in the middle of the bloody film which drives me nuts, series discs being sent in the wrong order, taking a long time to receive high-priority films and various postage problems.
That, combined with the fact they don't have much left worth renting that i haven't already watched, and taking a long time to get new films makes me think i'll cancel my subscription.
e.g. http://www.lovefilm.com/film/In-Time/169952/ can't rent in bluray, http://www.lovefilm.com/film/Prometheus/163063/ i know it's not out yet, but people are very unhappy about not having a reserve button for it and the rental date being December
i keep paying for it but never use it and keep forgetting to cancel. really must get round to it as the ps3 doesn't work with it (site never loads up properly, and even in the dim and distant past when i did manage to make it work, the browse function only got you like the first few pages and then refused to go any further, so unless you wanted to browse only films starting with a or b, you were kinda stuffed).

It does take an absoulte AGE to load for me.Streaming is pretty poor on my crappy 4meg connection even a low qual, even if LF say it should be ok for hi qual.
Been using them for years and can't say I have any complaints.
I'm on the cheapo deal to have 2 things a month one after the other. Delivery and turn around has always been prompt.
Weird thing that has just happened though. Couple of weeks back I had an email from them saying "we noticed you have had .... for a while now so. We don't know if you have lost the disc etc but so you can keep on enjoying the service we are going to send yo another film off your list"
Which they did, except the sleeve had 2 dvds in it and since then without returning any of them I have received more. I now have 6 DVDs at home.

I've been a Lovefilm customer from almost the very beginning, can't say I've seen any drop-off. I've noticed that if you use the service a lot,ie turnaround your discs weekly, you are less likely to get a high priority new release.
I do agree that more and more new titles are not available on DVD, either straightaway or sometimes ever. I think this is a contractual thing with certain studios though.
I still wouldn't be without it, the priority thing doesn't bother me much, not overly fussed what and when I watch something.

I know quite a few PH'ers use Lovefilm, I've been with them for 3-4 years I'd guess now and always liked the service, but recently it's got to pot, aside from the technical issues regarding discs taking days to get to me, days to get back, site crashes, and nothing getting sent out for a few days...
Is it just me, or has the selection gone to pot? I can't put my finger on what's missing in terms of actual titles, but for the last 6 months or so my OH and I have been catching up on a lot of TV series box sets so haven't had many films come to us, so I expected to find a lot of great films to choose from, but I go through the 'just released' or 'coming soon' lists and it's just pages and pages of old BBC / ITV TV series, straight to bargain basement sound-alike films, concerts and kids stuff.
I spent an hour on it last night trying to build a list, they've been badgering me to add more, managed to add two films I've already seen and 2 TV box sets.
Anyone else losing the will to carry on with them? I was going to cancel it, but the alternatives being their streaming service, or '3am ITV4 films' as I like to call it, or heaven forbid trying to find a Blockbuster store that's still trading.
I think even with free Internet downloads there's fk all out there to watch. Started watching classics instead of this crap that is made now days, can't even remember the last good recent film I watched Is it just me, or has the selection gone to pot? I find the trick to get new releases is to get them on your list as early as you can, before they've been released on 'high' priority.
But I agree about the streaming part, the selection is dire. Some unbelievably bad B movie horrors. They look like they've been filmed using a 1990s mobile phone.
And a heads up to anyone with kids using the service on an Xbox, etc. There's some some quite hardcore porn available, not that I've watched it. :-/

I currently have Netflix and Lovefilm instant streaming accounts. I'm planning to go over to fibre broadband soon, probably with BT infinity and a Youview box. An option on Youview is NowTV, has anybody got this?
I'm thinking of ditching the Lovefilm instant for it. I use Netflix for the TV series so that's staying, but I don't use them as much as I want because of the monthly limit on my current broadband, fibre broadband will be unlimited. The selection on NowTV does look ok compared to LF instant.
