The Raid. Redemption.

Really enjoyable movie. 8/10.

Just watch it with Sub's. Dubs are so annoying.

I gave up after 20 minutes, the dubbing in the SWAT van is *terrible*!

Will try the subbed version.

It's got the original effects in it that aren't Americanised and I noticed there was an annoyingly tiny delay in the sounds of the punches.

Also, there's only so much I can take of dubbed movies. Reminds me of the old Jackie Chan ones. It sounds so unbelievably fist to screen unnatural.

Couple I saw over the past week -

Divergent 7/10
I'd heard bad things about this and I felt pretty 'meh' after seeing the trailer but it's not actually a bad film at all. OK the premise is a bit far fetched and the plot a bit predictable, but I was never bored throughout the 2.5 hours, the leads do a good job (and the main actress is pretty even though she's dressed down all the time) and in general it looks good. I hear it's a poor man's Twilight/Hunger Games but I haven't seen either of those.

Ender's Game 8/10
It's one of my favourite books so I was comparing bits to the book quite a lot, but it's a good film in spite of that. It may be one for the director's cut to see the building of friendships a bit more but it's still well worth a watch.

Locke - 90 minutes with the camera focused on a man driving down the motorway, talking to various people on the phone, as he tries to deal with his life falling apart.

Absolutely brilliant (although I suspect it is very much a "marmite" film).
Nail on head being marmite film, two people walked out when i saw it today,i agree with you,i loved it although ending could have been done better i think.

What about some sort of panic room? Oh, wait....

Off to see locke now, give a report when I return.biggrin

I can't add anything to what's already been said, it is an excellent film. It is like a lesson I'm just not quite sure what in, maybe humility or integrity, well doing the right thing even though it is the hardest of all the options.

Being local to where the film started along the Aston expressway (A38M) I was looking out for local sights and soon spotted the cinema(star city) where I was watching the film. It soon left the M6 and went over a bridge somewhere before quickly returning to the right place, it did this several times and though it didn't spoil the film it must lose a point. Tom Hardy was brilliant as always.

8/10

I thought it was rather bad. Everything apart from the idea of postapocalyptic train. Couldn't even bothered to finish.

Side Effects (2013)

7/10 a good film.

A bit of a 'slow burner' to begin with, but worth sticking with for the conclusion.

Jude Law delivered a fine performance.

I saw Psycho for the first time today - I know, I'm over 50 years late - but I loved every scene, easily a 9/10!

I also just finished... wait for it... Mean Girls - which, much to my surprise was actually really enjoyable - as a young, straight male I am surprised I enjoyed it as much as I did, 7/10!

Cloud Atlas.

10/10 from me, I need to read the book now, but I absolutely loved this film for even trying to create such a story for people to watch.

I can't find who recommended The Secret In Their Eyes, but thanks. Brilliant.

Argentinian thriller about a prosecutor who's writing a novel about an old case. Great performances and some mind-bending shots (particularly one where an aerial shot of a football match blends into a shot in the stands.) No idea how they did that.

The Adjustment Bureau - A really surprisingly good film. A bit soppy, and the ending was very abrupt, but the film was still very much worth watching.

That Awkward Moment - Typical romcom storyline, and I know Zac Efron isn't the most acclaimed actor out there, but this film is pretty funny, lots of 'lad' humour in it. Also features Imogen Poots who's making quite a name of herself in the biz. I expect to see a lot more of her in the near future.

I really enjoyed this also, thought it looked great and the score was wonderful.
