We visited the GroSvner last year when we had a stopover in Torquay (we stopped in the Travelodge down the road). We were walking past and went in for a few beers (had a decent German lager on tap too) no cameras though but they did have a dodgy cabaret night on. Looks a pretty funnly place to stay to be fair, plus it was packed that night.
The other half can’t get enough of this and I really enjoy it as well.
The manager seems to put his heart and soul into it even though he sometimes wastes needless time on little projects. He is very un pc and to be honest funny as hell in a nice way. Very genuine chap. I get the feeling work is his life though and imagine he is depressed as fk behind the scenes.
The gay guy and jabba the hut don’t seem to do much but I guess showing them doing work /not making mistakes isn’t good for tele.
Some of the couples are tragic. You wonder what kind of a ste hole they live in when they come and say its stunning/beautiful.
To be honest though it looks a bit of a laugh, I’ve stayed in some holes with previous jobs (your talking £25 a night for bed and breakfast that were a million times worse than this place!) to ok hotels (Travelodge etc) and to be honest id sooner stay here. The entertainment looks crap but I bet its great being there, the manager is the most passionate I’ve ever seen and it doesn’t look to bad. Its full of character by the looks of it something that’s missing in many bedsits and hotels, most of which I couldn’t wait to leave and avoided talking to the owner.

I love this program, it's total car crash but so good. I love the manager's approach to business. Upgrading the sausages, but no thought of costing, supply reliability etc.
The episode where he launched his plan to make it a 5 star hotel was horrendous, the place needs a bulldozer, or at least a complete, stripped the shell and rebuilt renovation before that place will ever look 5 star, and that's just aesthetics - the people working there will never let it be 5 star because they are lazy, incompetent, feckless oafs*.

- At least, that is what Channel 4 have edited the footage to make it appear as.
