I thought it was a bit odd that they replaced an updated clutch with a standard
I'm just watching that episode now, and my first thought was "why has this car got an uprated clutch? Has the engine been uprated too?"So they replace the clutch with a standard one, and then go looking for extra power by under-driving the pulley. Makes no logical sense at all.

Just watching the c5 z06 tonight , mike buys the car with a slipping clutch , ant breaks it open to replace it and finds a lightweight flywheel in there but replaces it with a standard factory item as " it's the right thing to do and it will appeal more to the market "
Then he replaces the front pulley with a smaller underdriven aftermarket item as it wil " release more power due to parasitic losses of the original item "
Ones contradicting the other , make your bloody mind up ant !
Obviously mike just bought the cheapest clutch and flywheel off the tinterweb without knowing about the flywheel, I'd have put the lightweight one back in .
Exactly. If the previous owner has gone to the expense of a lighter flywheel and uprated clutch, you need to ask what else has been modified. Then he replaces the front pulley with a smaller underdriven aftermarket item as it wil " release more power due to parasitic losses of the original item "

Downgrading the clutch to a standard item and then chasing power gains is just barmy.
Ive never understoon why they dont count thr labout cost as every car they have sold had probably been at a loss even from series 1 with ed china.
Saw the mr2 episode and they used 43 labour hours which roughly equals £2300 if a mechanic charges like £50-£60 a hour. So when they sell the car it looks like a profit but it isnt.
Anyway love this show its my go to when i want to zone out.
Now is there a thread for Car SOS..

The original premise of the show was to demonstrate what you could do at home (more or less)Saw the mr2 episode and they used 43 labour hours which roughly equals £2300 if a mechanic charges like £50-£60 a hour. So when they sell the car it looks like a profit but it isnt.

Its gone way past that now which, while still entertaining, is a shame imho
The first couple of the new Ant series seemed to have a lot more customisations, where as there is more 'just servicing and old car' in this series so far.
At least in this series it's not just been all Yank trucks etc that I have no interest in and has been a bit more European in content.

Yes, but if you do it yourself, you haven't spent that £2,300. You have expended time, but not sacrificed any income. Unless you quit your job to do this, which would be silly. Its so similar to what many people on PH do. Look at the recent thread in Reader's Cars - Audi 80 saved from the scrapyard, has cost less than £200 to get running because the owner can do the work. But someone else, could pick the car up and send it to a mechanic and it becomes a £1,000 spend. Either way the car is worth the same, but who's made the most money if they chose to sell it?Saw the mr2 episode and they used 43 labour hours which roughly equals £2300 if a mechanic charges like £50-£60 a hour. So when they sell the car it looks like a profit but it isnt.

Did the boot of the Alfa fly open when he pulled of the drive??
One of the many cock-ups that could have been edited out or re-shot that I mentioned back on page 5 of this thread.
Also, how many times was Mike looking at the wrong camera when doing his monologue during the test-drive? It's a recurring theme for the whole series.
