Yes. In 1975, the list price of a Sprint was £2293.
A Mexico was 1755, RS1600 was 2394 and the RS2000 was 1965.
One of the classic mags pitched one against the RS2000 and HP Firenza which I think the Firenza won but that cost £2625 new. A Magnum 2300 saloon was 1823.
So the Mexico was never a rival...
I wasn't so much talking about the prices as the power and performance A Mexico was 1755, RS1600 was 2394 and the RS2000 was 1965.

I saw most of it but missed the end , how did the dolly compare to the escort ?
Slightly off topic but I watched it as I once bought a dolly sprint back in god knows what year for a hundred quid , engine sounded like a bag of spanner’s and the oil pressure light was on , I knew it needed a rebuild but decided it was worth it as I limped it slowly back to my builders yard - garage . I pulled the engine and dropped the sump , no wonder it was noisy and the pressure light lit , the clown had filled it full of sawdust to try and muffle the rattling . Somewhat annoyingly I don’t think the bottom end or oil pump were actually knackered when he’d put the sawdust in , the timing chain was the biggest cause of the noise .
I do remember it being a genuinely good car to drive though .

As I remember the adverts at the time the Dolly Sprint was always compared to the BMW 323i.
The E21 BMW six cylinders didn't come along until 1977 - the Sprint came out in 1973 and soldiered on to 1980, in typical BL style. In 1975, its BMW rival was the 2002 but even the weedy 1602S (85hp) cost £2208, the standard 2 litre 2002 (100hp) was a pricey £2650 while the Tii (130hp) was a massive £3141.
The £2293 Sprint weighed 2214lbs) and had 127hp; an RS2000 (2015lbs) had 100hp: RS1600 (1920lbs) had 120hp.
BMWs of that era were also very sparsely equipped, I think even a radio was an extra.

The comparison between the Sprint and the Mexico was unrealistic, at the launch it was compared with the RS2000/BMW2002. The difference, you sat in the RS2000 as opposed to sitting on the Sprint. In standard trim, the Sprint was slightly quicker, but the RS2000 had more predictable handling.
The overdrive on the Sprint meant it was a very quick cruiser. The car in the episode looked like it had been part way through a restoration when Mike bought it.
I had a 1974 Dolomite Sprint and it was a seriously quick car at the time, just the image was a bit wrong for 19 year old.
