Enjoyed this episode, just when you think he must run out of ideas he pulls something out of the hat.

Surprised they did not make the bonnet a better fit before painting it.

All the cool kids are doing Aggros now. Jonny Smith is having one built, and Retropower have just started one as well.
Jonny Smith’s is fantastic, but mainly because it acknowledges how utterly st they are and throws away everything mechanical.

As I remember the adverts at the time the Dolly Sprint was always compared to the BMW 323i.
The E21 BMW six cylinders didn't come along until 1977 - the Sprint came out in 1973 and soldiered on to 1980, in typical BL style.

In 1975, its BMW rival was the 2002 but even the weedy 1602S (85hp) cost £2208, the standard 2 litre 2002 (100hp) was a pricey £2650 while the Tii (130hp) was a massive £3141.

The £2293 Sprint weighed 2214lbs) and had 127hp; an RS2000 (2015lbs) had 100hp: RS1600 (1920lbs) had 120hp.

BMWs of that era were also very sparsely equipped, I think even a radio was an extra.
My first car was an 1850HL Triumph Dolomite, which cost £400 in 1983. It was Inca yellow with a black vinyl roof, very comfortable, with cord/velour seats, wood trim, lovely dashboard. In 1987, I bought a 1972 BMW 2002 from Paddock Wood car auction for £220. I replaced the front screen, brake servo, had the sills done, then resprayed it in the light green metallic (Resedungrun I think). It was far more basic than the Dolly, but engineered to a higher standard. I did a head rebuild, with hardened guides and it was like a Swiss watch, so smooth. I sold it in 1990 for £1200 and bought a 1982 Alfa Giulietta.

I had an Allegro as my first car, over 30 years ago. Was rubbish then and has not got any less rubbish or coveted since...

Lost count of how many times they said Escort Mexico in that episode.

Noticed when Elvis was fixing the overdrive the underneath was all painted with a new stainless exhaust as were the arches.

I wonder if they had a deal with the specialist for a tv makover and he did the work or was it even the same car?

They always annoy me when busy taking an exhaust off or gearbox apart wearing a light grey top / and no gloves. Like yeah, no dirt can touch me. Wonder why

Just watched the dolly sprint episode, what a load of tosh, they called it bulletproof and supposedly couldn’t understand why it wasn’t a sale’s success, no mention of the weak bottom end and the number of engines that went bang because it couldn’t take the power the head made it produce. But Brewer knows about cars

As did I, however, did you notice how immaculate under the wheel arches were before they did the bodywork? To me, it looked like a much better car that they'd just taken the doors, bonnet and boot off from and replaced with some of those that littered the dexion shelves in the seller's workshop!

Easy job to put the originals (if this was the case) back on and give it a quick blow over wink

That said, the bonnet gap at nearside front seemed to be consistent before/after spraying - so maybe it was the same item?

Anyway, all supposition and it's 'telly' of course and made for a painless hour of entertainment.
I also thought this (same with the interior) but I did notice that the doors were still brown on the inside where they would be covered by the door cards after the respray.

It has become plain to see why Edd left, the later series with Ant and now Elvis feature so little workshop time it makes you wonder if they actually do any of the work or is it all subbed out.

And the opening scene where Mike goes into the workshop where Elvis is busy working on a car wearing immaculate clothes, nice watch and trainers.

Fascinating fact: Elvis used to work in F1. Surprised they never mention it on the show.
