I'm surprised that they had to pay Tax and Duty on bringing a British car back to Britain.

Would the owner have reclaimed anything when taking the car to Portugal, assuming that the whole Single Market/ EU was in place when the car left the UK?

I forgot to mention, not been used in twenty years, but as a decent set of Toyo Proxes on it.

I really didn’t get what all the “it’s not been used for 20 years so the head gasket has gone” BS was about? Other than that a decent episode. I guess if they find a car at the right price they have to dream up some faults. And as posted unless the car was officially exported, (was that even a thing with the EU?) why would they have to pay import duty?

I thought that. The head gasket false jeopardy was a bit odd too.

Certainly good practise to compression test an unknown engine and no harm in running a sniff test also if you have the kit. But everyone nodding sagely "hmm...yes head gasket may have gone because...old..." seemed unnecessary.

The bumper repair chap was very good. When they said he was going to make a new washer jet cover I laughed, but he did an excellent job for a fraction of the cost of 3d printing which seems to be an option used lately.

I find this a nice hindsight - both Ed and Mike are unsuited to anything else and should view the whole WD experience as the equivalent of winning the lottery.

It's red hot in the sun and we have a sheltered area to work in, let's put it outside

If you was paying F1 Elvis, you would think he was doing nothing all-day judging by the pristine white t shirt, super clean hands/arms and not a bead of sweat on him even in mid day Portuguese heat. Mind you he looks exactly same in the workshop as well .
That really is a very special skill he has.
At least Ant did get a bit of grease and oil on him from time to time.

I didn't get that either. I would have thought that changing the cambelt would have been a priority if it had been standing for that long.

Elvis was saying on Facebook earlier that he thinks this has been the best series of wheeler dealers ever, not sure if that really is correct, so little workshop time now.

Definatly

I had to rewind it.

One minute Brewer is talking about the car and then all of a sudden he is talking about the suspect Head Gasket.
I thought that I had missed something.

Didn't do a cam belt, oil change, brake fluid change, didn't check the rear brakes which miraculously weren't seized on.
The tyres didn't have flat spots from standing for so long...

Yest despite all that he was happy to thrash it on a mountain road and drive al the way back to the UK.

Fishy....

They did do a brake fluid change of sorts using a syringe.

I used to love wheeler dealers. Watched it from day one many years ago when Mike was slim.

I continued on when Edd left, I didnt particular like Ant but I respected his abilities. Elvis is ok however I feel that programme has long since died but the programme owners havent realised yet. They are repeating cars they did before, mechanical scenes seem to be reducing in number and its all very vague nowadays. The show now annoys me more than entertains me in a strange way.

I feel that the uprise of the YouTube channels has over taken programmes like WD. I also feel that Mike B is played out now. Im not saying he wasnt the fore father of these types of programmes but I feel that after this series WD needs to be put to bed. I dont even attempt to watch WD episodes now, if one is on then I may briefly watch it which being a true petrol head shows the lack of appeal the show now has.

Well I consider myself a true petrolhead(definition not necessary as we’re all different)and I still enjoy it. Admittedly not as much but there are far worse shows on tv about cars.

I just FFW all the guff and watch about 10mins of the car. I think the format could be improved if they got rid of all the faux selling and put all the cars through a classic auction. Then do a 2 hour special recapping the cars and then seeing what they achieve at the auction. The whole "wheeler dealer" premise is so false now; Mike pretends to do a deal buying a car, Mile pretends to do a deal selling the car...in between some work that may or not need doing may or not have been done by Elvis...

You could change the show in many ways, but then it wouldn't be Wheeler Dealers.
