I just FFW all the guff and watch about 10mins of the car. I think the format could be improved if they got rid of all the faux selling and put all the cars through a classic auction. Then do a 2 hour special recapping the cars and then seeing what they achieve at the auction. The whole "wheeler dealer" premise is so false now; Mike pretends to do a deal buying a car, Mile pretends to do a deal selling the car...in between some work that may or not need doing may or not have been done by Elvis...
It would be better if they revamped the format now, as you said maybe put the cars through auction at the end of the series

Perhaps they could buy the cars at auction, fix them up, and then sell them at auction again. They could rename the show to something like Bangers & Cash Restoring Classics.

You could change the show in many ways, but then it wouldn't be Wheeler Dealers.
Is it even Wheeler Dealers now?

Well they still don’t factor in labour costs so I’d say it still is. That was the main criticism when it first started.

Find someone with a personal tragedy, restore their car and then make them bid to buy back their car at auction.

The public can phone in and pledge extra if they think the story is sad enough.

This week’s episode was a prime example where this programme is losing its direction, in my opinion. Forgetting all the guff with pastry buying and sitting next to the pool, there was an interesting piece about the headlight washer cover fabrication and the bumper repair. Yes, we see the initial work to melt plastic into the crack in the bumper and a quick sanding down to take off the rough edges. Not sure if the guy thought it might be proprietary but we saw none of the finishing carried out to smooth out the repair and “the bit of paint” to finish it off. We didn’t see any close up of the repair after the work was completed unless I missed it (possible as I’m easily distracted during 45 minutes of the show). Great opportunity to inform and educate but instead we get a 3 minute segment of interest, lost amongst all the boring padding in the programme content.

The washer cover he made didn't appear to have any fixing tabs

So little made sense in the Peugeot episode, £1500 transport why not just drive out with the trailer and bring it back, did that in the past but instead spend £1100 and repair on site as that was easier.

Do head gaskets really de-grade from sitting around, no cam belt change plus if it has been sitting for 20 years why did it have 4 new tyres.

Finding an empty villa in record time, expecting us to believe Elvis flew out when it was obvious that he never got his tools etc through hand luggage.

Of course it was Mike's mate in Portugal selling the car, I wondered if it was really Mikes own car and villa.

As a side note I see they list 4 other mechanics now in the closing credits plus interestingly as an engineering consultant Will Trickett he is the guy with the massive sideburns on Flipping Bangers, I suspect he does all the welding etc.

Sorry to trouble the conspiracy theory but there’s a letter in this month’s classic ford magazine from the chap who sold Mike the 405. Seems all fairly straightforward to me. I’m sure that won’t suit the ones who seem to watch WD just to criticise it on here.

I hate to break it you and others, but it’s a planned and scripted entertainment show.

Despite all the apparent flaws and criticism of the format, it’s long running and keeps comes back despite presenter changes.

Only just got back into it after the Ant and America period and quite enjoying it again. Can’t download more from the current and last series which is annoying.
