There are only so many mechanical issues to deal with and bodywork and interior.

It should be more about what car they are finding to do up.
I agree, but with this being the second 996 featured on the show (also the third 911 on WD and the fourth 911/third 996 featured if you include the one bought at the end of the first series of WD Trading-Up) then trend of the the show turning into 'Mike Brewer's Greatest hits remastered' continues.

Also, YET ANOTHER CLUTCH CHANGE!?

I'm not saying I want to see another AMC Pacer episode, but I'm really starting miss Edd China's input on the selection of cars to work on as at least it added some variety.
I only count 1 996? Where are you getting the 2nd from? You're not confusing it with the Boxster are you?
Subaru Impreza, Porsche 996, there have been a few others too.

They've not done an ISB before and it's something many people will not have heard of,me included....and it's usually wise to put a clutch in when the gearbox is out especially if you're paying someone else for the labour
I had also never heard of this bearing (not really into 911s or indeed Porsche at all if I'm honest) so it was pretty interesting for me - every day is a school day and all that.

The main thing I got from the clutch section was that it'd be very foolish to have the gearbox removed and NOT fit a new clutch... imagine how you'd feel if it was your car, you thought you'd 'save' a few quid and 2 weeks later the clutch starts slipping...

I thought it was a really good episode overall.

I'm in this exact dilemma with the Sagaris right now. The clutch slave cylinder has failed which is apparently a gearbox-out job. However, a new clutch is £750 which will obviously make a huge difference to the final bill. frown

At that price, it's saving more than a "few" quid if there is decent life left in the clutch, hence the dilemma.

You could always take a look at the clutch once the box is out, and then decide. wink

Yes, of course. And I intend to. But you can bet your bottom dollar it's going to be borderline. smile

Fingers crossed your clutch is OK.

£750 sounds like a hell of a price for a clutch though - can you not source one cheaper?

Clutch and flywheel on my car was £1k, plus £360 for associated parts, without the labour.

Fingers crossed your clutch is OK.

Well they managed to do an entire air-cooled VW episode without mentioning crankshaft end float!

Not bad this time and a bit more of what WD used to be like (we've seen most of the shown repairs before at some point, but they've made a lot of episodes now), but a couple of non-mentioned costs such as reinstated wipers and new sensible-profile tyres. Was the "paint correction" mentioned to remove the "Mike" script from the door?

I think the wipers was just case of putting the arms back on. The spindles were still there, just had caps on them.
It started getting a bit Brokeback Mountain on the beach I thought laugh

Surely we don't need lessons on lowering torsion bar suspension twice in two weeks?

No complaints about the programme, just the choice of car; VW Type 3 fast backs looked horrible when they were new and nothing has changed. Morris Marina Coupe anyone?

Same here on the Tuscan after it failed on the M25, I pick it up tomorrow. £2k for slave, clutch and lightweight flywheel whilst we were at it. Clutch had done 60k since Blackpool installed it so I figured me and the previous owner had our money's worth out of it. If you've got more than 30k on yours I would make the same call given some of the AP's weaknesses.

That's the thing - although the engine has been out at least 3 if not 4 times whilst I've had the car, and it's on its second flywheel, I don't actually know when the clutch was last changed. It'll be just my luck that it's going to need a clutch. frown

Am I the only one who noticed that when Ant started to work on the suspension, Mike brought the seats in. Ant asked him what he was doing, to me it sounded like Mike replied, "I've brought the seats in you ahole!"
