Wheeler Dealers

Cerbera tonight...
Hmmm. So, one of the biggest criticisms of the latest series of WD proper is that about half the cars featured had been 'done' before. Now we are getting a 'new' series that is just Wheeler Dealers - Trading Up without the international travel element but with the added con of revisiting old WD cars.
Let's face it - Brewer is out of ideas and is just remixing old hits, with desperation leading to piss-poor production values - st camera work, poor continuity and a premise that stretches credibility.

The thing that I find particularly amusing is that Edd was ostensibly fired for not wanting to physically do all the spannering but merely be the face of spannering, with a team of mechanics behind him off camera. Yet I don't for one minute think that Mike actually does anything other than flap his pie hole in front of the camera, with a team of researchers, runners, buyers, and gophers behind him off camera.

It's entertaining and not to be taken too seriously, like Top Gear really. Thought £23k for that caravan was a bit steep though, do '80s vintage things like that really go for sums like that? Can imagine Airstreams being expensive, but that thing?
Don't mind Mike Brewer, my opinion of him went up when I realised he owned such a nice Citroen SM.

there's people asking £65k+ for Airstreams, so this "lesser known" variant probably does get you that kind of money - it certainly looked a lot bigger than your run-of-the-mill Bailey or Swift that you see clogging up the A303 once the sun pops out.. Don't mind Mike Brewer, my opinion of him went up when I realised he owned such a nice Citroen SM.

Yeah, I suppose. Must admit, I'm not up on my caravans.
I just looked on eBay. I'm sure I'll be getting all kinds of "suggestions" now every time I go on eBay, much like Booking.com still reminding me that I might want to visit Naples, Florida and not Naples, Italy where I meant to click. Clockwork Cupcake said:

Edd was fired. I read that he just fkoffski'd after the new format was just MB gobbing off.mikal83 said:

Well, either way, Mike made several references on Social Media to Edd not wanting to do all the spannering. Even if it wasn't true, it still felt like the pot calling the kettle black.

The truth is in Edd's book. The production company were discussing changing the line-up behind his back and Mike let slip by accident that they had been planning it. In the end they breached their terms of the contract and Edd just walked away. He could have made it difficult for them as he part-owned the rights to the format as an executive producer, but he didn't.Edd also owned the UK location for Wheeler Dealers, so the permanent move to the US was part of the attempt to wrest him out of the job. It was a close to a case of constructive dismissal you could find in this industry! Spannering etc. had nothing to do with it, it was just Mike wanting total control of the show.
Mike's version of events has changed every time he has been asked, and every time his body language and wavering words gives the air of someone with a guilty conscience, but he has never put anything in print.
Edd on the other hand has, so if his version wasn't true he would have been sued for libel by now.

Fair enough. Well, it's fair to say that one of Mike's versions was that Edd wanted his role to be more of a presenter than the sole mechanic (as in, didn't see why he had to actually do all the off-camera spannering), and I just thought this was hilarious as it implied that Mike was the sole researcher, buyer, and seller. And that's clearly highly unlikely.
To be clear, I'm not claiming that was the actual reason, especially not in the light of your reply, but it's definitely something Mike claimed* at one point.
(* - either on Twitter or else captured on camera phone by a fan. I forget which. But it happened.)

Oh, absolutely. Mike is what he always was - a disingenuous used car salesman. I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him.The chap who they bought the Cerbera from on last night's episode said that he needed the garage space as he already had the deposit down on a "new" Griffith - I wonder if he actually meant the new Griffith, or if he'd just happened to have put his money down for an original one. If he wanted the "new" one he certainly didn't need to make any room for it in his garage just yet..

Watching an old WD on Quest just now. The Porsche 911 has just popped up for sale after years of no MOT.
