I've been waiting patiently for the non Ed series to start ....for ages.

Thanks for heads up.

The premise of the ‘Dream Car’ programme is quite a good one, it’s just completely let down by how obviously staged every part of it is.

Yup. I’d have stuck with the RS2000 and not bothered with the deLorean.

Exactly what I thought... and so did my missus (she's a bit of a classic fan, bless 'er).

All day long.
The Bentley ‘deal’ was the worst fake sale they have ever done on this series. Dealers don’t sell stock for £5k less than it’s worth.

Not having read all the thread but having seen a few of the recent episodes what's the story with the new "mechanic" Elvis and where did Ant go to?
Obviously a new angle so it doesn't get tired but is Ant doing his own thing now.?

Think I would have stick with the RS too!

Although having seen a DeLorean in the wild recently (for the first time ever!) The one Mike found looked amazing by comparison.

I dont know if any one else does this, but when watching old episodes of WD these days, i put the cars registration into the government MOT checker website.

I have been really surprised just how many of the cars that MB claims are 'one of the best in the country' are no longer on the road.

I appreciate that some of the cars may go into storage, but that cant be the case for all of them.

The M3, M5 840i coupe, Subarau Impreza, VW campervan that they did the hideous wrap on all have expried MOT's, and have for some time.

From what i remember, the 840i lasted about a year after the 'restoration' was done.
The M5 is still on the road and recently passed its MOT.

They are still doing the main WD show. This is just a spin-off, based in the UK.

Mike Brewer was on Twitter yesterday saying that they don't have any plans to make any more episodes of Dream Car after this series.

Depends on what the dealer gave on the Bentley in trade
Cars like that are horrifically difficult to sell because the market for a Bentley Flying Spur from 2007 is horrifically small.

I quite like the 'Dream Car' series - the Gti girl looked proper happy, as did the DeLorean farmer..

..however, Mike has trouble selling most cars / projects.. yet turns a £1000 profit on a Pinto block and a battered pair of carbs?!

Really did'nt realise Pintos were fetching that kind of money (after a quick lick of paint), I know 711m blocks are very rare and sought after - but not so long ago Pintos were being used as boat ancors.

and that's what makes them rare now, I presume? I don't know much about the trade in specific engines but as with everything, if the supply suddenly dries up because people did dispose of them more casually when they had too many, the price will go up amongst those who still want them?

Some things have probably remained more desirable the whole time and weren't disposed of in the same manner

Did anybody else think the RS2000 was bought very cheaply? Was it an original Mk1 RS2000, or made up from just a bodyshell and a nice Harris engine?

They're not cheap in any guise these days:

I think the £5k profit was far-fetched. In the dim and distant past I worked for a car underwriter; he traded hundreds of cars a month between main dealers/auction and smaller dealers and the margins were pretty slim. I could (just) about believe a main dealer under pricing the car, but the chap who sold the car had a specialist garage and I very much doubt he would have made such a large error as to its trade value. It’s tv and so obviously staged but I still enjoy it (but only when I can fast forward through all the nonsense.)

Ant is based in America having moved out there permanently and got married.

Mike crapped on his England-based mechanic to wrest control of that part of the show away from him (see earlier posts about Edd owning the location for UK Wheeler Dealers) and then wanted to do another UK based show but had burnt his bridges there, so had to recruit someone else from this side of the pond.

Wheeler Dealers Dream Car is so transparently Mike re-rehashing his limited range. I mean - DeLorean, Mk2 Escort, Golf GTi. It's his list of dream cars and he keeps putting them in his shows.

Only a matter of time before we get a Porsche 924.

I follow WD on facebook and twice in the last couple of weeks he has advertised a car that is 'ready' and looking for buyers, 'be on the show and shake my hand'.

Saab yesterday and an Audi last week

What I would like to see is a sort of MB drunken retrospective of all the cars they have done over the years.
I could have got 3 times as much for that dodge charger now!
Why does everyone give it the big haggle? Its a bargain. Look at it now you bloody skinflints!
Ed worked his fingers to the bone!

I mean nothing to do with those cars being "dream cars" for a lot of people biggrin

If you don't like it then don't watch - myself I kind of enjoy it smile
