There's criticism and trolling. I'm not sure Brewer knows the difference.
To be fair, that's an accusation that could be directed at a great many PHers, too.

Back on topic - it is quite interesting to view some of the comments made at the time Edd left in retrospect.....

Why Edd China was right to quit Wheeler Dealers

it was the production company’s desire to cut back on the ‘hands-on’ aspect of the programme that led to Edd’s decision to quit.
What Is Wheeler Dealers Dream Cars if not the realisation of that desire? Yes they've still got a token mechanic but the show's emphasis is mainly on Mike and his fake deals.

Look back at the many threads in here and on other forums about how most viewers would fast-forward past Mike's boilerplate bookending of the show to watch Edd and latterly Ant do the actual work. Consider Mike's social media presence and thin skin. It is pretty obvious how this show has ended up the way it has.

I wouldn't have been surprised if this Elvis guy had been restricted to being seen and not heard like 'my mate Paul'.

Mike's first post on Instagram this morning was just him scrolling through the list of people hes blocked.

I enjoy pretty much everything he does.. just take it with a pinch of salt! (or maybe a whole bag o' salt in the case of Dream Cars!)

I'm sure in himself he's feeling quite vindicated at the moment.

I'm not sure I believe that whole cutting back on the hands on approach.

Even with Ant on WD, and I also want to add I actually prefer Ant to Ed (sorry!) , Ant had probably more screen time and more emphasis on his work than Ed ever did IMO.

While of course you don't need to be a fan of the show, or MB, I just don't understand some posters who seem to hate it SO much yet are still here talking about it - Worse the odd user or two who hasn't even watched it.

I don't go into the Dancing on Ice thread and complain laugh

Just take it for what it is, light motoring related entertainment with some interesting characters. Who really cares if the cars are actually sold or bought.

It is difficult to know what to believe because, as has been said, one of the parties involved has a reputation for dishonesty....

Hmmm. Quite.

OK, so all entertainment shows need to have a level of scripting, but WDDC is being presented as a reality show so maintaining the suspension of disbelief is necessary. If people can look up MOT and tax histories and see lies are being told then that is taking the piss at worst, and just bad production values at best.

And that for me is the problem with Wheeler Dealers of late - the bad production values. You do not need to have a massive budget to edit and produce a good show - early Wheeler Dealers made a feature of the shoestring nature of the whole thing but still made use of clever camera angles, good editing and appropriate incidental music.

They now have a much bigger budget yet it is all fixed location cameras, piss poor editing and continuity, bad shots making it into the final edit (including many pieces spoken into the wrong camera) and generic twangy guitar music as used in all US car shows, and that's before they get caught out on all the fakery and re-treading of previous shows.

I'm not saying you're right or wrong but if you don't enjoy it then the best thing is to just avoid it smile

The only thing I will say about the new wheeler dealers is that it's odd they don't "talk" to the camera, they try and it do it like a fly-on-the-wall which is a little odd. But who cares what I think smile

I actually preferred elvis's style to the both of them. Needs to drop the daft nickname though.

If the shows are aired out of sequence that bentley could have been the one aired on a previous show .

I am avoiding it, but its just like the lament that is going on in the Doctor Who thread - I think it is fair to criticise something you enjoyed because it used to be good and held your interest but has noticeably declined in quality.

Reduced viewership is never a good thing, and I don't think WD has changed intentionally to appeal to a different audience because what they are offering up is just inferior re-hashes of what it used to be like tweaked to give a different member of the line-up more prominence.

Yep noticed that too, ‘another’ flying spur. Fancy that!
The Bentley hasn't been taxed since 2018 yet did 2000miles inbetween and has been mot'd. Naughty rich Bentley owners...

Would that be the trader wafting round on trade plates maybe?

The Bmw 840 was being sold by silver wood cars in Durham.
Interestingly they still have it for sale at £12k

It's beyond a joke now.

I could forgive it the odd phoney buyer in the early days but now everything is a lie.

I thought the nickname was a bit daft, until I saw on the credits his surname with Preistley.

I know it's just a 'TV' show, but as others have said if the whole set up is trading up through various vehicles then there should be some authenticity to the deals, otherwise you might as well have "I've paid £1 for some magic beans, sold them for £10,000 and now I can look for a high mileage Diesel Porsche potential money pit'.

Fair play to Mike for creating a successful life out of this format, l think, we are all fully aware of the fake sales.
However, on Dream Cars, the whole point is about trading up to a dream car, this is clearly not true.
The BMW is back at the trader he bought it off for 12K, the ratty old Sprinter sold to a lady visiting from Zimbabwe for 6K, to be turned into a minibus, yes right.
The price for Cayenne does seem low, but that’s probably for reason, the ware on the gear selector was fairly bad, suggesting heavy use.
The whole premise of the show is lost, because of a lack of integrity. Note he doesn’t say sold “deposit taken” “lady from Zimbabwe called”

He may as well have said he'd got an email from a Nigerian Prince offering the full asking price plus an extra grand if he can ship it over to him but first he needs a bit of help getting 3 million dollars out of the country....can you help? hehe

It's always been fake from the very first Wheeler Dealers with the 'buyers' being friends or production staff but at least it was fractionally believable, and now of course everyone is an internet detective and can trace the history of the cars while sat on the sofa watching the show, which just means you've got to hide the fakery better which he isn't.

I've not been watching the current run of Wheeler Dealers (much prefer the old Edd & Mike repeats) so not really in a position to comment on the latest episodes. My hunch is that the "lady from Zimbabwe" was most likely a Zimbawean citizen currently resident in the UK who has been asked by family members back home to source a suitable vehicle here to export out. Doesn't matter if it's only a van, once it's got some holes cut in the sides for windows and some seats in the back it'll do the job. Commuter transport in Zim is one of the few areas of the economy that works, in a manner of speaking, where entrepreneurs with a bit of gumption can put a vehicle on the road, move people about and earn a few dollars.

For years now the Toyota Hiace had the commuter bus market almost all to itself but on my last trip out to Harare last summer I noticed more Ford Transit minibuses and Merc Sprinters than before. i think they're gaining in popularity with the operators as you can get more people in and hence make more $$$.
