They asked Jonny Smith too, whether it was the Petrol Ped 'Go-fer' part or whether he would have been a proper presenter for it, who knows?

(stamfordchops is Mrs Jonny Smith)

I've not seen the V.V. episode. But, the "owner" of the Landie was a chap I know from the company.

As an aside. I've spoken a lot to Richard ('Moggy'), the owner of ECC this year. He is a tremendous bloke. He's the same off-screen as on. Absolutely dedicated to his work, willing to answer any questions, he goes all out to accommodate his clients.

A top, top bloke. Highly recommended.

I'm a fan of Wheeler Dealers, always have been and normally ignore the extra bits of entertainment but last nights episode with the Cayenne just was full of errors of continuity as well as staged rubbish.

Mike wasn't just driving past "passing"
Ant said the calipers needed to be back on to check the ride height, yet he managed to check it then the calipers turned up later in the show...
Didn't know where the coolant was coming from so checked and turned out it was those pipes but luckily had a spare thermostat as he knew he was going to take that part off.

The end piece was terrible on the racetrack not much to say about that ridiculous situation.

The dealer buying the car back...

Seems to be getting worse, we all know its for entertainment but why try and make out its not.

Moan over, quite liked the Cayenne!

I like the Cayenne too. I looked into these cars, common issues, etc but decided they are just a little too delicate. However I wouldnt turn my nose up if a sorted one, and the main issue is the coolant pipe under the intake, popped up. Wickedly fast.

Ive always liked them, I'm in need of a smoker to get me past the lease drought but wouldn't fancy taking on the liability, can't believe how fast they are for the size.

Impressive back in 06

Propshaft bearing failed on our Cayenne just before lock down. Porsche replaced the whole Propshaft under warranty.

And in the final total did not include the new disc and pads that Ant fitted

Made me laugh with the dealer buying it back, more like they fixed for the dealer.

Also how many times does hold out you hand have to tell us it has 520bhp.

They were doing stuff and not even making a mention of it back in the Edd days as well.

The one I remember was the Java Green RS2000 look-a-like they turned into a rally car. When Edd was taking out the engine, he mentioned it was the same as a RS2000 (film clearly showed a standard type downdraft twin coke on it) and that it was good and they didn't have to do anything with it.

Towards the end they show a shot of the engine bay with the engine back in it.....now fitted with a shiny new pair of 2 x DCOE's and filters etc........laugh which didn't even rate a mention in the show.

There was a lot of unnecessary jeopardy. Everything costs 5k etc. Why would you think that all the calipers, discs and pads need replacing just because it pulls under braking? The caliper rebuild is an easy DIY job so I don't know why Ant didn't do it, rather than suggesting you need to take it to a specialist.

They could have taken the car to an OPC to fix everything and it wouldn't have cost 5k...

Can't see it's been mentioned already, but it looks like Ant has split up from his wife. Whether you like the guy or not, that must be a gutter after 2 years together and a new baby.

It's all made up. Remember the one where they sourced and did up a French 2CV for some bloke and how the Isetta was conveniently bought back by the BMW museum.

If you believed Mike Brewer, he is also a master at diagnosing issues, when buying cars, that happen to be exactly right. Almost like he knew the faults before he bought the car.

Presumably they only met once he started WD in the States? I did think it seemed a bit quick: start a new job, move to a new country, meet someone, get married all within a space of a year. Probably a conversation for Mumsnet though...

See also the farmer's Porsche 914 and the American Escort Cosworth, both 'sold' back to the original owners.

Not WD. But, I know of a recent series that used a staff member to stand in for a car's owner as they didn't want to appear on TV.

They also 'invented' a staff post to enable a professional presenter to appear throughout the series. He was called the "Customer relations" officer, or some such.

I'm sure this stuff is pretty common.
Slightly different genre, but all of 'Pawn Stars' is fake. You can't actually film a transaction in a pawn shop in Nevada legally due to their privacy laws. You characters haven't actually worked in the shop for years, most of the sellers are actors and the transactions are 'recreated', originally from things that were actually offered to them, but 600+ episodes later, they buy in or borrow interesting things for them to 'trade'.

I don't think any big US 'reality' show is any better, once it starts making millions as a TV show, real life gets far to unpredictable to fit in with a filming schedule and there's far more money to be made by selling 'merch' and such that there is building cars / mining gold or such like.
