Sorry to trouble the conspiracy theory but there’s a letter in this month’s classic ford magazine from the chap who sold Mike the 405. Seems all fairly straightforward to me. I’m sure that won’t suit the ones who seem to watch WD just to criticise it on here.
He also has his own YouTube channel but from what Mike was saying that was not his garage.

So little made sense in the Peugeot episode, £1500 transport why not just drive out with the trailer and bring it back, did that in the past but instead spend £1100 and repair on site as that was easier.

Do head gaskets really de-grade from sitting around, no cam belt change plus if it has been sitting for 20 years why did it have 4 new tyres.

Finding an empty villa in record time, expecting us to believe Elvis flew out when it was obvious that he never got his tools etc through hand luggage.

Of course it was Mike's mate in Portugal selling the car, I wondered if it was really Mikes own car and villa.

As a side note I see they list 4 other mechanics now in the closing credits plus interestingly as an engineering consultant Will Trickett he is the guy with the massive sideburns on Flipping Bangers, I suspect he does all the welding etc.
I hate to break it you and others, but it’s a planned and scripted entertainment show.

Despite all the apparent flaws and criticism of the format, it’s long running and keeps comes back despite presenter changes.

Only just got back into it after the Ant and America period and quite enjoying it again. Can’t download more from the current and last series which is annoying.
I fully respect and know it is a planned and scripted entertainment show but firstly no logical reason to repair that car in Portugal, secondly all this talk of we are driving it home when done, we never saw any of that so the chances are they transported it home in any case.

Yes it is long running but it is a shadow of the show it once was, so obvious now that Elvis does nothing.

You are correct, not a shadow of its former self. I think the people who initially watched this, and enjoyed it, were interested in the spannering by Ed. The argument about they do not include labour costs were always explained away by saying they were replicating what was possible by the enthusiast.

The rot started when the Americans produced the show, to improve it, ie cheapen it, they cut down on the spannering bit, hence Ed left the show, it was obvious that things were not good between them.

But it it still entertaining just not as good as it was, record it and FF the bits you do not like.

I still think Mike is doing a good job of entertaining, if it reverted back to more spannering I think it would have run out of steam a long time ago.

It started off as a diy type show with Ed doing a fair bit of bodging but then sponsors got involved and he had a workshop full of all the latest gear that was beyond many professional repair workshops and the premis of the show changed somewhat

Can't seem to find the Caterham episode on Sky. Goes from the Alfa to the 405.

Series record didn't pick it up because the programme guides listed it as an old "Edd" episode from 2015.

Sky did pick it up but it’s not in the current series list, my Sky recorded it as S27 episode 9 so I had to go on the hunt for it.

In Canada I’m finding all of the latest series on a well-known video site, which surprises me as they used to be pretty vigilant about keeping the newer episodes off there. Despite the whining from some on here, it’s fine. Elvis has become a good presenter and the projects are generally interesting. I liked the 405 Portugal episode as it reminded me of the ones from years ago when Mike went to France and other countries to buy cars. Made for an interesting backdrop. While I’m sure any of the mechanics over the years could have rebuilt any major component of any car they had on the show, would showing that have really added much value to any given episode and taught any viewer much? As for the brake job, maybe he forgot that he had to push the caliper pistons in before putting on the new rotors. Or maybe they wanted to show the home mechanic who wasn’t planning to replace the rotors a way to do it with a piece of cardboard and a screwdriver. 🤔

As always some episodes are better than others but they are all entertaining.

That is part of the problem, he is no longer a mechanic and it is so obvious now that it is all fake.

It has always been so, to some greater or lesser extent.

I’m sure that some of the lot here will say that this fellow Chris a.k.a. The Alfa Nut is a paid stooge for the show and this is all fake or something equally absurd, but take a look at his 3-part video series about his experience with the WD GTV. Part 1 is at the link below, and #2 and #3 are also up for viewing:

It is still better than goblin works garage, the worst car programme ever, being shown on discovery turbo just now. Don’t know why, it should be buried and forgotten never to be seen again.
