Tell the BBC, it's them that's programming our children by ramming PC attitudes down their throats - in supposedly light entertainment.

Did you not notice all the blunderbuss subtlety of the PC messages in the last series - is a children's program really a suitable platform?

BBC news reporter just justified recasting lead as a woman by saying "the BBC having firmly committed itself to diversity".

Actress said "as a feminist".

Anyone still care to say it's not about being PC?
I think that you really need to take the advice that Sheets Tabuer gave out seriously rofl

Chill the fk out man

Normal life, you mean? A world where some of the people are female. And some of those are actually lesbians.

I think once we'd discovered that the Master was a fifty year old Scottish woman it was pretty much inevitable. Who really cares? She'll either make a good doctor or a bad one; the male incumbents have hardly been universally successful ( McCoy I'm looking at you..)

Lets us see...

I believe they've had plenty of female and lesbian characters before.

Changing gender is new though.

PS. If you're going to make an argument choose the right one.

They can't help themselves can they. They're trying to shape the nation you know.

Absolutely nothing against women, love 'em to bits, but this is a pathetic example of pandering to the wet ass liberal PC mindset that is overwhelming this country. And so, so predictable.

MsCoy was a fabulous fit for Doctor Who.

His writers however were atrocious!!

I lost interest in Dr Who around the back end of David Tennant's time as the Dr but this has sparked my interest again. She's a local lass to me and I think it could be the resurrection Dr Who needs!

What's "wet ass" and "liberal" about giving a woman an acting job?

It's hardly a documentary is it?

Its more an attempt at creating interest in an almost dead format and I reckon it might just work!

Same here. yes

The thing that is unique about Doctor Who is the ability to regenerate, and it's been perfectly within canon for The Doctor to have different age, looks, accent, height, etc. I don't see that their gender is any different to that and is merely an extension of same.

I'm really not sure why so many Whovians have their knickers in a knot over this.

Do you think she'll be running around in a swimming costume, Baywatch style?

You bet it's a documentary - isn't it...?

The role, the part, the character of Dr. Who - is male.

I thought Matt Smith was dreadful but as it moved on I started to actually liked his performance. Sorry but Peter's version just did not work for me whatsoever as much as I tried to like him.

Slightly disappointed that it's now a woman but lets see how it goes. What I think is a real shame more than anything else is the reveal should be within the show itself and this spoils it for me.

Still waiting for Lenny Henry to pop up and moan about a missed opportunity.
