Very weak plot, written by committee (typical of BBC), what a load of tosh.

(But I am old so wtf do I know)

I really don't like Dr Who. I think it's childish and badly written; has been for years. I dedicded to try this series with an open mind, because my wife loves Dr Who.
Is there an audience for British grown-up sci-fi? I am trying to think of a good one (decent even) in the last 20 years.

Black Mirror?

The only "proper" British SF series I can think of is Star Cops, 1987. I thought it was rather good.

Oddly enough, it was credited to Chibnall, so not a commitee, unlike most of US tv which really is written by committee.

I enjoyed it and thought it was much better than recent offerings from Moffat. For me the writing quality has increased significantly.

I am also old, so what do I know..

I fell asleep during the first episode, which was amazing given how much I was cringing during the delivery of some of the dialogue.

Do you not remember the Tegan, Turlough and Nyssa crew?
And Adric

As for the companions, the only one I'm taking to is Ryan

Yaz how can someone so wet be a copper

Graham looks lost

Not taken to the new Doctor yet but often takes 1/2 a series for them to bed in.

But not impressed with either of the scripts so far

Really wanting to like the new series and the new Doctor but not quite getting it yet - and that's despite the 2nd episode being much improved on the 1st, .

Hoping it grows on me as the season progresses.

It was ok but lacked any depth.

Dr Who used to have an assistant but mow has an entourage.

It's still early days, let's hope it improves.
There have been multiple companions before, but it never really seems to work IMO. The exception is strax who was brilliant as an additional companion smile

Oh please make strax a companion! Do you think a petition would work?

I really didn’t want to like this. It seemed like heresay to have a female doctor, but really liking Jodie, even (perhaps because) though she is channeling David tennant (spelling)

Production values are good , scripts are ok but hopefully will improve.

Looking at it now it really was “about time”. Feels like they have rebooted right vs Star Wars

Waiting for a good proper Weeping Angels episode

Madame Vastra, Jenny and Strax are a great trio.

Not warming to Jodie yet, early days albeit.

But Michelle Gomez nailed it for me as Missy/Master. Instantly watchable brilliant character. Probably would've made a great Doctor but would take some explaining how she looks exactly the same as Missy.

Michelle Gomez could be reading the football results and I'd still watch her.

I had a *real* problem with the "Three Suns", but only one set of shadows and one shaft of light coming in when they were in the shooting range. It also makes "don't travel at night" a bit awkward.

There was no plot significance in the three suns.

Also if you lit a large cloud of inflammable gas just above a layer of air it would such all the oxygen straight out of the air.

I'm not gelling with the new doctor yet.

Looking forward to an encounter with River Song. That will be an interesting dynamic.

Cannae argue with that. Could be assisted by Jodie Comer and possibly Keeley Hawes.

Funny, I thought the same of John Simm, would have liked to see the Master and the Doctor somehow change places.

And the reappearance of the exquisite Sally Sparrow. (Don't get me started.)

There didn't need to be, really, just a line for them to make sure you knew it was definitely an alien planet and not somewhere in a desert on Earth.
