Must be a new record.
The bloke she was talking to didn't feel the need to tell us that he fancies women.Must be a new record.
I have no issue at all with being inclusive. But isn't constantly pointing out how inclusive you are not actually very inclusive? Aren't you just pointing out the 'non-mainstrem' characters and thereby highlighting the effort you made to include them at all?
I couldn’t really be bothered with watching anymore of this series. However as it’s a Sunday night there wasn’t much going on so I watched it.
As I previously have mentioned the writing for this series is shocking and far away from the doctor who that I’ve enjoyed from a child to being an adult.
I’m slightly concerned as there’s a few sites near me that were built on old tips, I haven’t seen any giant spiders but I’ll keep an eye out now.

I've been watching this series because my wife enjoys Dr Who, but I previouspy stopped watching it a few years ago because it was childish.
By heck, BBC; you've properly fked it up this time, haven't you? Could you have found a blunter crayon to write it with?
How can you claim to be inclusive with regard to race, gender and sexual orientation, and the paint the (male) American character as an ignorant, bigoted fool?
Yes, yes, we all know it's suposed to be Trump, but surely you need another (dozen) American in there to tell us that some of them have different attitudes and motivations?

"Demons of the Punjab"?Liked the spiders. A proper scary monster for once, and reminds me of the Jon Pertwee episode, "Planet of the Spiders", which I remember vividly as a child, not just because of the spiders, but because Jon Pertwee regenerated into Tom Baker.
The rest was a bit meh. I'm not warming to Jodie Whitaker's breathless portrayal of the Doctor. She's actually kind of annoying. And please spare me the weekly social justice message.

"Demons of the Punjab"?The Doctor visits India in 1947 during the partition.
Not going to be any message there then?

Spike Milligan did a sketch entitled 'Pakistani Daleks'. It'll probably be something on the same lines.
For those like me who hadn’t seen the sketch. https://youtu.be/C0n88tZQc4Qecsrobin said:

Thanks, couldn't link it from where I am. Seem to remember thinking it being quite 'of its time' / crap years ago (which is probably why I remember it at all), suspect it hasn't aged well. Still, bonus marks for the writers if they manage some reference to it in the show . bstb3 said:

Well for a start it has two Dalek in it, that is two more than Dr Who has at the moment. At least I enjoyed the spiders as a creepy creature of the week.
But I'm already sick of being preached at regarding cause of the week and feel this isn't going to change any time soon.
Just not warming to Jodie at all. Feels like she projects no gravitas/authority/aura that previous actors have. And before
that is dismissed as a male Doctor thing, female assistants (not just Missy) have achieved that in the past when they've
carried scenes and plots.

The good:
Scary, enough to have family members hiding behind their laptops
Visually good - the CGI was excellent, a step up from previous attempts
The Doctor's patter - Nicely rendered by Jodie - 'Yaz's Mum'
The bad:
Loose ends - spiders locked in a panic room, businessman just wanders off, toxic mess left there... sigh
Horror cliche #1 - We know there are spiders, let's just head down into a tunnel where they keep their food
What is the Doctor doing? She's incredibly passive, not really 'solving' anything, mainly there to tell people when to run.
I can't say I minded the tone of this one - we've had monsters from discarded trash before, and cardboard baddies many times, so it didn't feel preachy, just not especially clever. The scares made up for it, and our kids enjoyed it, but this is not exactly Sherlock. Maybe the stories are just too short, but there's no mystery to the plots, and the Doctor either knows everything about a subject or just stumbles on the answer.
Still enjoying Jodie, but like Capaldi there's a danger the scripts are not going to give her a chance to really impress.
