I can see what they are trying to do.
But it doesn't work.
It could never work. Dr Who has always been about creepy situations, non-violent solutions, tension, excitement, and saving the world. Look at Weeping Angels, Vashta Nerada, Missy just to name a few of the recent ones. But it doesn't work.
It's not about a moralistic journey through history trying to educate viewers with a sledgehammer. I actually like this cast, but the writing is just wrong, wrong, wrong.

I've not had broadcast TV for near 3 years now, and from what I saw last week , I'm missing nothing. I was round a friends and she tuned in to Doctor Who, prompted by curiosity. We watched it for all of 5 minutes, before we changed channel , on agreeing it was utter garbage. Who is the woman playing the Doctor? She was utterly unconvincing, , seemed to be trying to be David Tennant, well, to my eyes and ears, at least .
From comments on here regarding the latest episode it appears to be all about the BBC running their agenda, and nothing about offering programmes people actually want to watch. I'll be sticking with Youtube, Netflix and Prime, darn sight cheaper than the "license fee" too.

Well that’s not really true is it? Netflix is £96/yr and Prime is &79/yr which is £175. The TV Licence is £150/yr. I’m not disagreeing with the sentiment, just the numbers.

To be honest, I don't watch it that much and doubt I would stump up what they want for it, but comes in handy from time to time.
Watched my first Jodie era one last night.....thinking it's the usual case of people being a bit over the top etc but fking hell!
Is the exposition delivered so unbelievably clunky and obvious every week? Seriously bad, felt like the aliens were there with no thought other than its Dr who. Genuinely funny and laughable. Enough viewing for me to write it off entirely until I've seen positive reviews.
BBC get alot of flak but usually can make decent programmes, in this case though they deserve every bit of flak and then some.
Come back sea devils (with CD hands) all is forgiven!
P.s. loved the sea devils!

I actually thought this one was better than the first few.
Not too much anti-colonialism/white man stuff (still a little though) but more a sad love story.
The Aliens were completely superfluous to the episode though and they would have been better leaving them out completely. Time Travel doesn't have to involve Aliens in every episode.
Still, it was a fairly good human story depicting the conundrum of whether to change the past even if it were possible.
Yaz or Prem?
"Tread lightly. You’re treading on your own history."

Thought it was a fairly well written bit of drama exploring a topic that I hadn't particularly been aware of. Given it had less than an hour to fit it all in I could forgive the clunky exposition. As with the rest of this series, it looked fantastic.
However... It wasn't really Who. As with some of the other stories, time travel was a convenient McGuffin to tell a completely non-Who story. The aliens were superfluous (might as well have had a narrator to explain we needed to be sad).
At the end where Yaz had to walk away from someone being killed, we got a ten second "we can't change things" and that was apparently enough to turn her back on a murder. We've had whole episodes dealing with the morality and 'rules' regarding changing the time line and here it was just.. yeah, sure... off we go. I know she couldn't risk wiping herself out of history, but it was made to feel that time travel was getting in the way of the story.
I'm really liking Jodie and her team, but they're just completely passive. The mysteries actually solve themselves (and make a speech about it), and other than waving the sonic around, the Doctor isn't affecting the world around her.
Rather than a writers room approach, where an involving story could be built up, it feels like we've got a 'writer of the week' format where someone has been asked "If you had a time machine, what story would you like to tell?".
I'm fairly thick skinned when it comes to the idea of agendas being pushed in the show, but if they give up on the Doctor actively and intelligently solving problems, all we're left with is a series of other people's stories. I don't think that's particularly sustainable.
