Just about half way through Hold The Dark. Set in Alaska, a child appears to have been taken by wolves and a wolf expert is bought in to track to down, but all is not as it seems...
Bit bleak, in a 'who would want to live there?' sort of way, but enjoying it so far.
Just watched it. The plot is almost incomprehensible, the camera work is excellent, the mood is as dark as the title. A sort of Scandi noir thriller in Alaska. I enjoyed it, although you might not if you want everything in a film to make sense. There are lots of clues about what is really going on. Bit bleak, in a 'who would want to live there?' sort of way, but enjoying it so far.
More guns than expected, and impressively done.

Series 2 of Travels with my Father is up. I really expected the first series to be crap but it is quite amusing
Great, looking forward to watching this. I like the father very much. shirt said:

Maniac was worth persevering with, it comes off as pretentious and bonkers at the start but by the end it was still bonkers but in a good way.
Loved maniac, one of the best things ive seen on tv in a very long time. Odd yes, but comes together brilliantly.D_T_W said:
Can you share what was going, because I've watched it twice now and I still don't think I really understood what the hell was actually going on!
Spoilered for those who want to give it a try, although I can't help thinking that a few more clues before watching it would help. They are so isolated that they have more in common with the wolves than they do with the nearby village. They are siblings ('did you meet your husband in the village?', 'no, I've always known him'). They are insane.
Although Medora has killed the boy it is an act of kindness, she didn't want him growing up there. When Vern is back and the police guy says about her getting the needle when caught he shoots him, then everyone else that gets in the way, because his bond is still with Medora rather than the 'city guys'. He spares the wolf guy because Medora tells him that he understands, so he's not the enemy. Wolf guy gets to tell his daughter all about it, it is Medora's story. Guy with M60 is also insane, doesn't like big city cops interfering. Hasn't heard of San Diego, and Anchorage isn't really Alaska.
That's what I made of it anyway. I loved the 'feel' of it, the ever-present wind in surround sound, the landscapes, the darkness of it all. The plot was simply lost along the way, it became confusing and unbalanced. I still enjoyed it, as did my wife sitting next to me who was able to brief me about people's motives from time to time.

Am I the only one who is watching - and enjoying - El Ministerio Del Tiempo? IMDb preface: "Three officers from different eras work for a secret government agency, guarding Spain's past from time-travelling intruders trying to manipulate history for their own ends.".
I was unsure about this halfway through Season 1. I stuck with it and was rewarded with good characters, a narrative [Spain's past] that threatens to veer off but is pulled back and weaved into an exploration of how the characters deal with coming to terms with their own personal history - some still being written - and other wider narratives. It's interesting to view a European perspective rather than US Centric one, because more time is given to character development, and the Spanish are less prudish in terms of language and sexual relationships (Irene Larra - that arse ... ).
