The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

Basically Generation Z does Buffy, so expect all the usual hot topics to be covered/cast and it to be nothing like as good. Both angsty and generally quite beige, the one stereotype that isn't tackled is the casting of the posh English bloke as the baddy...

Michelle Gomez hams it up beautifully as the cougarish, two faced evil witch demon thing and my 12 year old son (the target audience afterall) is really enjoying it. Just the right amount of scare for him.

All in all, not something you'd rush to watch yourself, but certainly good enough to watch with your teenage kids.
I watched a couple of these over the weekend, but with no teenagers to excuse my viewing selection! hehe

I was expecting far less focus on the 'witchery' element and for the whole thing to be more lighthearted and comedic as per the original TV series. The fact that it wasn't is to it's credit and I've found myself quite keen to continue watching.

It was a bit of a surprise to see Lucy Davis (aka Dawn out the Office) doing a turn as one of the Aunts.
I watched the whole thing and loved it. It's a lot darker than Buffy and pitched very well. The choices and mistakes Sabrina makes and her failure to think through outcomes are very teenage, although she's playing with life and death.
Yeah, I was astonished by how much I enjoyed this. The look and tone of it was perfect.

It seemed that every episode had a "WTF, did x really just do that?" moment

S2 of The Sinner is now up...

a new plot/murder to solve with the same detective dude....
Bill Pullman, not quite as edgy as the first but good... Pity there's no Jessica Biel in this one though :-(
I finished series 2 last night. I do like Bill Pullman but I agree that Jessica Biel not being in it is a bit of a disappointment. Series 2 is a bit slow and definitely not as good as series one.

Jack Reacher, Never go back.

All action film, good plot. Tom Cruise.
The first jack reacher was good but the 2nd was pants.
We liked both films; first is definitely better, second was still quite good.
Coincidentally

Not entirely sure Cruise would have even been up for a tv/Netflix show version. This could be the producers actually trying to save face after being turned town by Cruise hehe

Those films with Cruise in were perfectly good little thrillers... but with TC in the lead role, they could never really be Reacher films.

So, who would we like to see in the role of Reacher? I hope they don't go too young for the series, Reacher works as a 6ft6 brick sthouse of a man, in his 40's with some miles on him.

I think Jeffrey Dean Morgan would be good, but the size he was in Watchmen, not his more scrawny Negan look that he is now.

Also - Hugh Jackman? His Wolverine was perfect for Reacher actually hehe And Cruise was the perfect height for Wolverine rofl

hehe

Either could work.

But am I the only one thinking that they were the absolute baseline run of the mill action flicks? Are the books incredible or something? The films were the definition of ‘meh - that was ok’

Why is this a big deal? We’re they hugely popular or something?

Yes, but then again, so was The Da Vinci Code.

Jack Reacher is a semi-realistic superhero, built like a beast, Holmes-like deduction, eye-for-an-eye morals and a penchant for kicking butt and getting the ladies. The books are the equivalent of fizzy cola bottles, nutritionally rubbish but very moreish.

Anyone know if / when The Trip series 3 will be on Netflix?

Love the first 2 and Coogan and Brydon work really well together.

Lee Child always said he wanted Hugh Jackman for the role

That's not too far wrong wink

They are very good, well written, page turning thrillers. Don't look for anything deeper! I usually find myself reading a whole one in a day. There gets to be a slightly unpleasant repeat of "Reacher meets the most attractive girl in the world... and sleeps with her" in the earlier books, but that's been left behind some time ago now and all to the better.

My person-to-play Reacher would be a Ron Perlman in his 40s, so time machine required... skipping through a few other suggestions, I actually think Ben Affleck would do a very good job if he bulked out a bit. I would have to agree with Hugh Jackman as a good choice though.

I really enjoyed it, Jackie carries off the emotional side of the film as well as the ass kicking. I’d give it a 8/10.

I always thought someone like Mark Harmon would be good in the role. His character in NCIS has many similar traits to Reacher.
