The Ballad of Buster Scruggs - Coen brothers' collection of six short western films in one. Not a gem unfortunately, not one of the six stands out as anything special and both me and the OH were browsing ipads during the last couple.

It showed potential in the trailers, but as a western we thought Ridiculous 6 was better.

Dark! If you enjoyed Stranger things you should really check this one out!
Really enjoying this, though only after switching back to the original German soundtrack and turning on subtitles; the English dubbing is awful.

Sinner 2

Very good
Either Pullman is a master of his craft and plays the part of a completely expressionless, socially awkward, physically 2 dimensional character with zero charisma, humour or even good looks perfectly, every scene.

Or he's just a st actor?

The Foreigner

Jackie Chan plays a Chinese Takeaway owner who witnesses his daughter being killed in a "new-IRA" terrorist attack and vows vengeance on the bombers.

On the face of it it sounded ste, but it was surprisingly punchy and emotionally delicate - Chan pulled off the character well. Brosnan was reliable although his NI accent was about as good as Sam Neill...

7/10
Watching now. Great opening 5 minutes!
Just watched this on the basis of this post. Enjoyed it and just what I needed this evening.

Likewise, not watched a decent Chan film in years. Thanks for the recommendation.

Just over halfway and i have to agree, i preferred S1 & 2 but still enjoying Narcos Mexico, would rate it equal to El Chapo but with less violence and a bigger budget

Actually feels like a completely different series to Narcos rather than a new series except for a few familiar faces playing different characters. All 3 programmes had the same producers, film crew etc behind them and have a similar 'feel' and its going to be a tall order to keep this new one feeling fresh when El Chapo covered alot in its 3 series

Halfway for me too. I'm enjoying it and agree that it has the same look and feel as the original Narcos.

That said, the over reliance on cliched tropes (and there are so many of them!) does make it feel more like a drama than the original; it's lost the accuracy of rhythm and pacing that made the first series so brilliant.

I'm also in the ace camp. Beautiful cinematography with that Coen bros offset take on the genre.

Operation Odessa

Probably the most entertaining documentary I have ever watched. It's about a group of Miami drug traffickers making a deal with the Russians to buy a submarine.

Watched the entire series 1 of The Sinner on Saturday night, and thought it was excellent.

Started watching series 2 last night - only watched the first two episodes and looks equally promising. The only negative is that I'd like to be able to step into the TV and smash the little kids face in - he is utterly annoying, and not in a "he's acting the part really well" kind of way.
