One great film and one surprising one this weekend.

Wind River - think most on PH have watched and enjoyed this one. I thought it was excellent and a tough watch.

8/10

Dumplin' - Wife's choice and reading the synopsis I was ready to go and sit on the bog for two hours but this turned into a surprisingly sweet and funny film about a "fat" daughter of a former beauty pageant queen (solid turn by Jennifer Aniston) who decides to try and sabotage the process.

IMDB rates it at 6.8 and I think that is fair - anything creeping up to 7 I give a shot and this was a winner.
Your right dumplin' is a decent watch

Just binged the final half of the F1 series and really enjoyed it. I've not really watched the past couple of seasons, as it got a bit tedious and I missed the sound of a proper NA V10 screaming around. This series gave a great insight though and I'm actually looking forward to the 2019 season opener on Sunday. 9/10

Watched the final couple episodes of Dirty John last night. I certainly didn't see that ending coming! All in a very good series and Eric Bana was great. A solid 8.5/10

I was enjoying it, but started to lose interest and I'm a few episodes behind now. Worth catching up?

Watching this now. Can't believe how frosty things were between Christian Horner and the Renault boss! And Zak Brown seems to be a motorsport version of Trump!

After Life. Sentimental claptrap. Laughed and sobbed like a baby in equal measures. Utterly brilliant telly.
Great review!
Watching now, just the right balance of funny and sad, excellent stuff.

Edit - just watched the whole lot.

It’s had me the closest I’ve been to tears for years with the bit where his dad recognised him, then an immediate laugh just at the ‘saddest’ part. That’s how you do dark comedy.

The only odd bit was his lack of feeling guilty over killing the drug dealer/user guy he worked with.

I loved it as well, missus was blubbing a bit, I didnt but was close biggrin

And agree on the latter point, seemed inconclusive what his motivation was.

But on the whole, it was very well done and basically his manifesto, dont be a , be nice and be a bit sarcastic.

I agree, I finished it last night as I couldn't stop watching it, gripping TV that kept us guessing. Eric Bana was superb.

I thought it was excellent. I love to hate Ricky Gervais but can't deny his talent for this kind of thing. It was really well put-together.

There's also a 90 minute documentary about the actual case. It was incredible how many women he had groomed. I take my hat off to the daughter though. She stabbed him about 15 times when fighting for her life (including the fatal wound where the knife penetrated his brain through his eye) and doesn't appear to have let events ruin her life.

I've been watching the F1 series. It's excellent. They certainly made out Grosjean was a complete incompetent. Force India chap, what a scoundrel he is. Inherited his fathers empire at 28. Blown it all by 60.

After Life - Ricky Gervais.

3 episodes in and quite enjoying it. Certainly better than Derek was.
Can't watch anything with him in it.
What about an industrial tumble dryer?
Ahh, well, ok maybe that , or something equally deadly.
Ok I'm just going to park the above quote there, to save anyone else digging it out.

I couldn't help it and watched the first 5 minutes. It led to watching the firts 4 episode.

Utterly fantastic. Emotions took a battering akin to an industrial tumble drier ! lol.

It has to be some of the best written TV I've ever watched.

His 1 to 1 chats with Stan and his missus are so poignant, and Sandy is superb, barely a word for 4 episodes, simply amazing facial expressions, and then when she talks I just about choked .

Ok, I give in, it was brilliant.,

I think it helps a lot that it wasn't 'typical' Ricky Gervais, no playing to the camera like The Office, no risque jokes like his stand up, no over the top characters like Derek, just proper emotions and situations everyone can relate to.

I'll be watching it again in a couple of weeks because I'm sure there's details that I've missed.

I hate it when people do this - what was this comment chain referring to?
