First up- Peaky Blinders has been absolutely brilliant. Up there with an HBO production.

I felt season 5 was a let-down. The worst so far by far. They threw way too many things at it, like it was designed and written by a competitive committee rather than a seasoned writer. Did they change writers? Anything? It got way too political and tedious.

Are there more seasons coming? Such a shame this was a dip in form.

They should have more episodes, take their time and get back to basics.

I am amazed people come on here to complain about a glasweigan accent or Tommy having a cough! Very odd.

For what its worth The Wire is good but overrated.

You are wrong about The Wire.
Obviously not.
Plenty more threads on the same lines.

Judging a 5 series show on 5 episodes rofl
Are you for real?
How many hours of your life should a show be given to prove whether it's any good?
I'd say anyone who sticks with any show they're not enjoying after 5 hours/episodes is absolutely crazy. Life's too short.
I could find plenty more links praising The Wire than you could links slating it.

But you're right 5 episodes is plenty to judge a series of 60 episodes. You have the patience of a saint.

I'm not derailing the thread anymore.

You are welcome to the last word, should you feel the need.

I won't respond.
It’s number 7 on IMDb all time tv series ratings.

It’s obviously a massively popular series.
That list though. Do me a favour. Four 'Planet' progs in the top 10 and The Sopranos at 14...

I disagree. I think Peaky Blinders is excellent and can be held in comparison to other 'world class' shows. .
Nice to see some on here manage to retain a sense of humour!

Agreed. Tbh it’s gone on too long. At least there hasn’t been a dream sequence which is always a sure sign the writers have lost the plot.

Thoughts on the first episode then? I felt it was a nicely handled tribute to Helen McCrory and a good setup for the rest of the series. Hopefully Arthur gets his act together to feature a bit more.

I thought it was good too. Back to what we came to expect from peaky blinders. Setting it up nicely hopefully for some good action again.

Echo the above. Well written out if you see what I mean? And less moody walking about to music and more Tommy Shelby doing what he does best. I too hope Arthur features some more especially his violent outbursts.

Excellent first episode. 10/10

Erm, not seen the last series of Peaky before this one, and I do rate Peaky as the single UK programme (drama) that can compete with if not HBO, at least Showtime.
I feel like I have to watch the last series before this one...ergh, feels like a job. biggrin

The Wire, one of the best programmes made, it's scope and scale is immense, and it's style, can;t think of anything other in the style that comes near, it easily makes my all-time top ten.

The Wire is unrivalled for me. Working my way through it again for about the 8th time.

That was excellent!

Maintain that standard and it'll be TV of the year.

I would say BoB beats the lot but that’s not fiction. Otherwise for me The Wire is the pinnacle(the only series of its type I’ve rated 10* on IMDb) others come close though. The Shield was excellent as was SoA.

Might be true.
I've seen BB once, and was riveted. After chatting with a friend post viewing I realised it was more layered than I thought. I actually watched it years after everyone else and knew practically nothing of it, it was on...Spike USA or some crappy channel at 150ish one year, every night from S1S1 to the finale, best way to view it. Wire, Sopranos, Deadwood, they all have a lot more going on than one sees on first viewing. I'll need to watch BB again, to get the deeper experience. All of these programmes are layered and have depth to them, but Wire is a different style to Sopranos and BB, it's executed more like a documentary, I can see how some just can't get into it.

Deadwood, Sopranos and The Wire are all in my top ten.
