It's about what I expected from a big monster film.

Comparisons with the 1998 version are pretty mental.

Mahoosive destruction of cities/property? Check). Sadly I think I preferred the 1998 version (and I realise that I may well be alone in this!)"
The massive destruction of buildings is what...

Never mind you like the 1998 version, there is no help for you.

I enjoyed it, though IMO 'monsters' was a bit more of an original/ different story.
Liked it better than pacific rim, but not as much as cloverfield, I'm just generally a sucker for a massive monster film though!

I think it wasn't that bad an idea not going overkill with the monsters on screen, though a little more would have been good!

Ok Few questions......

1. Cranston Dieing so early leaving Kickass to carry the whole film. Missed opportunity really

2. MUTO the admiral explains its meaning and then someone says "it flies" Perfect opportunity to change its name to MUFO and then the ground one as MUTO.

2. The whole female MUTO thing Lets slide little doors across vaults having just run in at full speed into a mountain with chopper escort. WHY THE fk DID THE HELICOPTERS NOT FLY ROUND THE MOUNTAIN AND NOTICE HALF OF IT FECKING MISSING? and a 300ft black spider thing trampling most of Vegas?

3. Why was Godzilla such a bit part he almost cameod in his own movie.

4. Lack of Elbow drops onto MUTO from Godzilla made up for with tail splat into wall

5. If the Mufo was attracted to Nuclear stuff why the hell did It not go after the 2 Nuclear powered aircraft carriers instead of the Russian submarine?

6. No Hidden Scene on Imax showing frown

Positives
Cranston was very good!
IMAX = Awesomness for monster flicks
NUCLEAR FIRE BREATH = resulted in a Nerdgasm from half the audience last night.
Great Brain off Film Loved it!

I liked it.

About what I expected, except I thought Walter White would have had a bigger part

I saw this last night, film of the year for me. I went for the 2D option as I predicted there would be a lot of dark images and with 3D films already being muted on colour I thought I'd prefer a sharp, crisp 2D image instead of a darkened 3d image.

Anyway, the film rocked, yes it had some moments where you need to suspend disbelief but it's giant monsters smashing stuff up so what do you expect. The sound was fantastic too, I'm sure the subwoofers at my local Odeon will be worn out after showing a run of this movie, the bass was absolutely crushing.

Decent enough but not a patch on X-M DOFP. 5.5/10 and yes the Bass was intense, especially when the monster was under the railway bridge.

Heard a review on 5 live the other day and summed it up very well. The director Gareth Edwards did very well with a pretty mediocre script, which I’d agree with the sky dive thing was awesome. My only regret was I opted to see it in 2D which meant a smaller screen in my local independent so some of the impact was lost.

I hope (and think it has) done well enough to re-launch the franchise and we’ll see a sequel or two. After seeing this it motivated to dig some of the old dubbed Japanese films-forgot how fricking awesome and comedy they are!

Just seen it, not a film i'm bothered about ever seeing again tbh.

There were too many long boring parts in between 5mins of action. Godzilla also featured less than the other monsters in his own film!

P.s. How were the pilots ejecting from their planes after the emp made them fall out of the sky?

Ejection is mechanical and chemical not electronic? I wondered the same

It wasn't as annoying as the EMP effect in Revolution which knocked out planes but left the running lights on!

Watched it tonight and really enjoyed it. Sets up a good franchise if they play it right.

I got this on blu ray a couple of days ago - my thoughts

1. Godzilla himself didn't appear nearly enough - as others say - almost a cameo.

2. Pacing was very hit and miss - far too slow at the start.

3. The picture was extremely dark to the point where you couldn't see what was going on even turning the brightness up on the TV right to maximum - especially during the final battle. Looking around the web - there are a lot of complaints about this around the web - apparently it's a problem with the blu-ray/dvd transfer (which I would agree with - there is a trailer for The Edge of Tomorrow on the disc - and I thought that was also very dark - compared to the actual movie which I own). The same scenes in trailers/clips online appear fine on the same TV and you can see all the action.

I thought it was quite good, saw it in the cinema in 3D and i thought it looked great and pretty much what i expected from a "brain out" action movie.

I reckon that was because, in order to keep with the original "upright" type of monster, it would look comical on the move in this day and age. So they didn't show it moving very much.
