Yep, thanks. I watched it once.
He also played Stringer Bell in acclaimed US TV series "The Wire".

And he played Nelson Mandela in the recent biopic, for which there's a bit of an Oscar buzz.

If you've watched American Gangster, he gets shot in the head by Denzel Washington.

Fraid not. Its a Toyota engine that they had to have in production to be elidgable for NASCAR, as the regs are for a pushrod v8 biggrin
(or at least they used to be, and a quick google says Toyota)
When Toyota wanted to enter the pinnacle of NASCAR ie. Cup Toyota did not have a big enough V8 nor pushrod so Toyota developed their engine based on Chevy V8.

davepoth said:
Not quite. It's a TRD engine that they designed specifically for NASCAR, but it is a pushrod V8. Here's a nice article about it. A bit out of date but it should still stand.

That's about the Tundra when Toyota first entered NASCAR and specifically in the Truck series. Toyota didn't have a V8 that qualified so NASCAR gave them special treatment to develop their own.

I've followed NASCAR since the mid-1990s so I know I'm right!

I really enjoyed the 6R4. It didn't need the likes of Chris Harris to tell you those cars were absolute beasts.

Just catching up with this now. Why no footage of the crash with the E36?

Something different and well delivered,

Idris Elba comes across as a genuine guy, he loves his cars, may not be too knowledgeable, but tat doesn't stop him from being a petrolhead.
Nail on the head for me, very enjoyable.

As far as I'm aware, the engines are the same apart from intake (smaller carbs up to last year, not too sure what they're doing this year), with 358ci pushrod V8s. If Toyota developed two different although almost identical engines for NASCAR (in the round, not just the Sprint Cup), I don't see any evidence for it.

Yeah, more like 600k for the car and the same for the plate?

I loved this programme, a real gem. My childhood hero, Dai Llewelyn was featured, and that was enough for me. Really good mix of stuff.

What would a gold plated poseur like Kahn want with F1 number plate when he doesn't even know the proper name of the designer he aspired to emulate? "I do a bit of posing..." You don't say!

A very agreeable and entertaining two hours over two nights. Not sure that Chevrolet Impala jumping would be the in thing in Bury St Edmunds!! I'm pretty certain the drifting segment was filmed at Aintree racecourse, maybe on part of the old racetrack there. Also enjoyed Ari Vatanen, seemed to have a glass of something in his hand most of the time. Another decent program from the BBC.

Nope, not seen these either as I dont watch much telly, it`s usually crap hence not knowing who the bloke was. And the last thing I`d be watching would be about Mandela.

It was OK for a primetime BBC show based around cars. About the level of detail I'd expect and Idris had plenty of enthusiasm for it all.

I'd liked to have seen something more about British car culture, than a couple of cars drifting roundabouts.

Would have liked to see the e36 roll too. Am guessing a battered ego might have influenced the edit? smile

I've just remembered a bug bear from the ep.2 Idris can't pronounce Keichi Tsuchiya - sounded more like he wanted to order King Prawn Chop Suey!

It's been an open secret.

When JGR first stripped down their engines from TRD they said it was more or less a Chevy.
