BBC Wales showed the second part in the series Hinterland last night. This is a repeat of the Welsh language version, it has now been re-shot in English and Welsh (with subtitles). I was impressed, quite a dark detective series reminded me a bit of Wallander. Worth a watch if only to see what Wales is like in the winter - damp!

Not exactly, it was originally filmed in English and Welsh at the same time, i.e. two takes for every scene. It's only now that BBC Wales is showing it and it is supposed to be coming to BBC4 some time.

It's similar to the Nordic Noir dramas that have proved very popular, and yes, it's very good.

I'm looking forward to this (in English - despite my nationality and name I'll need subtitles if they show the Welsh-language version smile).

I'd love to know why it's called (The) Dusk (Y Gwyll) in Welsh and Hinterland in English, though.

Just watched, and enjoyed, the first episode (recorded from BBC Four on Monday night).

Interesting to see that (according to Wikipedia) Denmark and Norway have bought the bilingual version. smile

Is this anything like the recent BBC Shetland which I thought was superb ?

I'm reserving judgement for now, but I was enjoying it. The two women massively over-hammed the acting though towards the end (ep1).

I taped the first one and watched it last night, I thought it was pretty good, not as depressing as the Scandinavian stuff (an opinion which is based on reading a small number of Henning Mankel books and nothing else). Some of the scenery was very impressive, must try to get out there and have a look this summer.

Only thing that jumped out at me was how great the train service is down in the sticks. While Tom was at Byron's shed, there seemed to be a train in the background every minute or so. This is not my experience of rural Wales train services. And no, I can't stop myself.

I think it's much better than Shetland.

Just watched episode one. It was dark. Loved the scenary the dialogue, how it was shot but rather painful to watch.

I've just watched the second one, quite dark again, as if it's never sunny in Wales. Well done though, must catch up with the third.

I hadn't realised there's a new series of this, BBC4 at 9pm today. Started last week, but I haven't had chance to watch it yet. And I can't remember the end of the last series, which is relevant when you see the start of the new one.

Last week's episode was the New year special shown between S1 and S2

Oh, right, I'm completely lost now. I seem to have missed S2 completely, so if this is a repeat, I'm sorted.

Hinterland (Y Gwyll) series 3 - English language version - started on BBC1 Wales last night. I missed the Welsh language version when it was shown earlier in the year.

Brilliant TV, shame about the "continued after the news" part. I won't go into any detail, just watch it for yourselves, I'm sure it's on iPlayer somewhere.

Cheers for the heads up. They made it very difficult to find last time - after making a big deal of advertising it nationally as part of a BBC4 drama season, and then saying coming soon, I'm not sure it ever actually aired nationally in England! Had to catch it (just about in time) on iplayer.

I really enjoyed this when it started but it seems to be turning into an automotive version of Poldark. Too much emphasis on the back end of a car speeding to another crime scene

This series was shown very recently on BBC1 Wales. I thought it was better than series 2.
